California Desert Chorale (CDC) will be<br />

present<strong>in</strong>g their 15th Annual Scholarship<br />

Competition to hear local high school<br />

seniors and community college students<br />

perform and compete for scholarships.<br />

Artistic Director, Tim Bruneau will oversee<br />

the competition along with judges Charles<br />

Herrera, Laura Stave and Louie Salcido.<br />

The competition will be held Sunday,<br />

January 24 at 1:00p.m, Taylor Hall, <strong>Palm</strong><br />

Desert Community Presbyterian Church.<br />

Admission is FREE with donations gratefully<br />

accepted.<br />

Established <strong>in</strong> <strong>20</strong>02 to offer scholarships<br />

to local high school and community college<br />

s<strong>in</strong>gers who demonstrate exceptional<br />

vocal ability, the California Desert Chorale<br />

Scholarship program has helped fourteen<br />

young s<strong>in</strong>gers cont<strong>in</strong>ue their vocal<br />

and choral study at the collegiate level.<br />

The monetary awards are sent directly to<br />

the w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g students’ college to assist <strong>in</strong><br />

defray<strong>in</strong>g the cost of their cont<strong>in</strong>u<strong>in</strong>g vocal<br />

studies. Last year, Soprano Ashlyn Brown,<br />

a student of <strong>Palm</strong> Desert High School, was<br />

awarded the $1,000 California Desert Chorale<br />

Scholarship for lum<strong>in</strong>ous performances<br />

of “Botti, Botti Bel Musetto,” an aria<br />

from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera<br />

“Don Giovanni,” and “Allerseelen,” an art<br />

song by Richard Strauss.<br />
