Artikel die Patienten in Müllers Krankenhaus ablichten.<br />
Er erzählt von der greifbaren Zuneigung<br />
zwischen Besitzer und Tier. „Die Falkner hatten<br />
stets eine ganz besondere Verbindung zu ihren<br />
Falken“, erinnert er sich. „Ich hatte großes Glück:<br />
Einer der Falkner lud mich auf die Falkenjagd mit<br />
seinen Freunden ein. Abends saßen wir in der<br />
Wüste am Lagerfeuer, umgeben von den Falken<br />
und Geländewagen der Männer. Ich weiß, dass es<br />
ein Klischee ist, wenn ich erzähle, dass die Greifvögel<br />
wie Familienmitglieder behandelt wurden.<br />
Doch genau so war es.“<br />
Falkner Jassem Al Hamadi stimmt dem zu:<br />
„Mein Falke ist mein Sohn. Ich sitze gern mit<br />
meinen Cousins und Freunden in der Wüste<br />
abends nach dem Training, und unsere Falken<br />
sitzen um uns herum. Das ist der schönste<br />
Teil des Tages.“<br />
Auch nach 15 Jahren im Job und Tausenden von<br />
behandelten Greifvögeln fühlt Müller noch immer<br />

Dan Kitwood, who was allowed to photograph<br />
patients at the hospital for this story, says the love<br />
between owner and falcon was palpable. “The<br />
falconers clearly cared greatly for their birds,” he<br />
says. “I was lucky because one of the men invited<br />
me to join him and his friends for falconry. We<br />
sat round the campfire in the desert, with all their<br />
falcons. It’s a cliché to say the birds were treated<br />
like family members, but it’s absolutely true.”<br />
Falcon owner Jassem Al Hamadi agrees.<br />
“My falcon is my son,” he points out. “I enjoy<br />
sitting with my cousins and friends in the desert<br />
in the evening after training, and our falcons sit<br />
around us. It’s the best time of the day.”<br />
After fifteen years and tens of thousands of<br />
birds, Dr Müller still gets emotional when helping<br />
injured patients. “We once had a peregrine falcon<br />
who was run over by a car, one of the worst cases<br />
I’ve ever seen,” she recalls. “It seemed like a lost<br />
cause but it looked at me and I felt like it was
