FRIENDS OF
HOPWOOD PARK
Summary
The Friends of Hopwood Park (FOHP) formed in 2011 as a small group of residents to help make improvements
to our local green space known as “Hopwood Rec”. Five years later we are a group of over 30 active volunteer members. We meet monthly to
plan events and projects.
Aims and objectives
The aim of FOHP is to improve the facilities and safety of the recreation ground.
Additional benefits have been improved social cohesion, reduction in anti-social
behaviour and encourage residents of all ages to participate in community
activities.
WILDFLOWER MEADOW
Since 2011, several successful funding bids have helped to improve play facilities
for children, improve public access, and the creation of a wildflower meadow which
has proved to be the parks most successful activity. All of this work has established
the park as a focal point in the community.
Annual Events and Activities
Throughout the year FOHP organise a range of activities, events and projects to
engage all the community – craft sessions, meadow maintenance events, family
activities, a Winter Market and a large summer event. All fund raised at events
are reinvested to further improve the park.
SUMMER BAZAAR JUNE 2015
Hopwood Cabin
In September 2015 with funds raised we purchased a refreshment cabin which is
now situated on the park to provide snacks to park users. This is managed by
FOHP volunteers will be open more
frequently during the spring and
summer months.
HOPWOOD WINTER MARKET 2015
Hopwood Park Café Project
Our current project is to renovate a semi-derelict bus shelter into a community hub/café to provide
an indoor place to meet friends and enjoy a snack.
