In April 2016 SchoolCare undertook a complete refit of the ICT
Suite @ Holdbrook Primary School Hertfordshire, transforming an
under used classroom space into a fully functional high tech ICT
Suite.

THE CUSTOMER
Holdbrook Primary School are a busy, friendly and popular school with a
warm and welcoming ethos, based in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. The
Staff, Parents and Governors of the school all work together to provide
the best for the 200 pupils they serve. Holdbrook Primary School clearly
want their children to enjoy their time and education and to achieve the
highest possible standards in all aspects of their lives.
Holdbrook Primary School pride themselves on providing a learning environment,
where children grow and develop in safe and supportive surroundings
becoming ‘Creative thinkers and lifelong learners’. Key to this
ethos is the provision of cutting edge technology and functional engaging
learning environments.
THE CHALLENGE
SchoolCare’s Managing Director, Steve Jones visited the school
in November 2015 to explore options to improve the ICT Learning
Space.
The school had a multi-purpose room, which was used for ad-hoc
teaching sessions and already had an interactive whiteboard. It was
also used as a storage area for laptops in pre-existing trolleys. A
desire was expressed to have an ICT Learning Space with sufficient
room for a fully class of 30 pupils to use ICT on a 1:1 basis.
It was identified that the existing ICT infrastructure (including
servers), was located in less than ideal locations in a small office.
As part of any refurbishment as much of the ICT infrastructure as
possible needed to be re-located.
THE SOLUTION
SchoolCare’s in-house design team were able to generate multiple
3D designs immediately after the initial visit, to allow the school
to visualise what their new learning space would look like. The
visualisation process allowed the school to see everything from
flooring and furniture colour, to ICT equipment placement and
layout.
Over a 30 year history SchoolCare has forged close working
relationships with a number of well known and respected furniture
designers and manufacturers. This allows access to a wealth of
options to turn the 3D Visuals into reality.
SchoolCare leveraged in-house resources to manage and implement
the entire project, which
included; a new suspended
ceiling and low energy LED
lighting, new custom furniture,
electrical installation and data
installation.
As part of the project,
SchoolCare managed the
decoration of the ICT Suite as
well as the installation of an
efficient 10kw Air Conditioning
system to keep the learning
space comfortable no matter the
weather. SchoolCare engaged
the services of experienced
contractors who have worked
alongside SchoolCare for a
number of years, to achieve this.
As an ICT Solutions provider
SchoolCare installed a new 27U
network cabinet and switching
as well as 31 new High Spec Dell
All-in-One Desktop PC’s. As the
school had an existing contract
with Hertfordshire LEA for their
ICT provision. A full technical
hand over was performed
between SchoolCare and Herts
LEA to ensure the new machines
could be easily integrated into
the school’s existing network.
THE RESULTS
The ICT suite project completed
on time ready for the School’s
ICT contractor.
