Standards for client connectivity.
Broadband4’s MyCloud Secure Off site backup performs a
nightly backup of your important data to our UK Data Centres
and stores it fully encrypted until you need it.

High Speed Internet Access
High Speed Internet Access is the cornerstone of
modern ICT in the classroom. A massive wealth of
online content help teachers deliver lessons in a
dynamic and interersting manner.
Most schools connnect using to our network using
Fibre Optic technology, however this is not always
possible due to geographic or financial constraints.
Broadband4 employ unique access methods to allow
schools to obrain high speed services using technologies
such as Wireless and Satellite broadband.
Our fibre optic network is able to deliver broadband
speeds of up to 10Gbps all secured by a managed firewall
and protected by LightSpeed content filtering.
We’ve seen speeds increase from between 2 and 10mb, to over
50mb. We now have the ability to track our data usage, see
how our bandwidth is used.
We’ve got a much better service now than we had with our LEA.
Content filtering is now managed by us and allows us to quickly
change and update site preference. We’re really pleased with
the Broadband4 service provided by SchoolCare.

Content Filtering
E-Safety is a key consideration when deploying internet
access to schools.
Broadband4 offers a suite of e-safety tools which are
underpinned by the LightSpeed Systems web content
filtering platform.
LightSpeed systems offer market leading web filtering and
reporting solutions which integrates with your on premises
Active Directory, allowing granular web filtering at a per user
level.

E-Safety Solutions
Broadband4 offers filtering and monitoring fully
compliant with The Prevent Duty – UK Government
Advice surrounding the prevention of people being
drawn into terrorism.

E-Safety is a key concern for schools and parents alike,
so the Broadband4 service is delivered alongside
an award winning, fully accredited filtering solution
from Lightspeed Systems. Broadband4’s Lightspeed
powered filtering system provides complete granular
control over filtering right down to an individual user
level.
By connecting to your schools Active Directory (or
OpenDirectory/LDAP), our filters are able to determine
the identity of all logged in users. Once the identity
is known filtering rules specific to that user can be
applied. Most schools opt to tailor filtering to individual
student or year groups, but it is possible to apply rules to
individual students should the need arise.
Recent UK Government Guidelines set out a school’s
obligation under the Counter-Terrorism and Security
Act 2015 surrounding internet monitoring and content
filtering within a school. One of the key requirements is the
reporting of internet activity down to an individual user
level. Broadband4’s Lightspeed Filtering platform which
is included as standard on all our connections, is fully
compliant with the Prevent Duty meaning your school is
too.

MyCloud Backup
Secure and Compliant offsite backup is fast becoming mandatory in schools and other
educational establishments. Ensuring your data is kept safe and looked after by a
reputable organisation is very important. With MyCloud Backup from Broadband4 you
can be sure your data is fully encreypted and kept secure within our UK Datacentres.
Ensuring your school’s important data is safe and secure is
vital. As the number of devices grows, so does the amount
of data produced and help on these devices and on network
servers. From SIMS Data to course work, ensuring that the
school has a reliable backup is hugely important.
As part of our MyCloud School Portfolio, Broadband4 offer
high capacity offsite backup services and currently protect in
excess of 100TB of school data. Your school’s data is backed
up nightly after hours, where only the changed portions of
files are transmitted. This ensures fast data backup and
efficient use of storage.
All our data storage servers are UK based and are held inside
our dedicated Broadband4 MyCloud School network. Your
school’s data is encrypted using 256 bit AES encryption
before it is transmitted to our secure servers. It remains
encrypted whilst “at rest” on our servers and can only be
decrypted using the correct key.
All our data is replicated to a secondary data centre location
as standard, ensuring your data is kept safe in a secondary
UK Data centre location.
Should the need arise, data can be retrieved either via your
internet connection or sent on an encrypted Hard Drive
directly to site where it can be restored.
MyCloud Backup is a true “set and forget” solution,
eradicating forgotten or missed backups, caused by
tapes not being changed. Backups are also background
scanned automatically to ensure data is intact. Any
issues trigger another backup of the file to ensure the
data is safe.
Every day a nominated individual (or group of
individuals) will receive email confirmation that the
last nights backup jobs have completed successfully.
Backups are also pro-actively monitored by our
Network Operations Centre (NOC) team, who will
take corrective action, in the unlikely event a backup
should fail to complete.
All Broadband4 data centre facilities are a minimum of
Tier 2 rated (with some being Tier 4), will all necessary
safeguards in place to ensure the physical safety of
your data and the hardware on which it resides.
The MyCloud Backup infrastructure is wholly owned
by Broadband4 and we never sub-contract out the
support or maintenance of our platform. Access to our
data centres is strictly controlled and maintained by a
dedicated team of individuals.
As more and more schools deploy
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
solutions, or allow the take home use
of school owned technology, the need
to ensure the safe “off network” use
of these devices is very important.
The Lightspeed Systems Mobile filter
ensures that all devices adhere to the
school’s filtering policy, no matter
what internet connection they are
connected to, anywhere in the world.
With the latest trend towards secure
(SSL) access to websites, common
search engines such as Google and
Yahoo are encrypting traffic to their
services. Whilst this is good from a
user perspective, encrypting search
traffic does make it difficult for web
filters to analyse search content.
Broadband4’s Lightspeed Systems
Web Filter utilises techniques to
analyse encrypted SSL traffic to
ensure that search queries are fully
logged and a filtered accordingly,
whilst ensuring traffic which needs to
remain secure (e.g. banking) is kept as
so.

802.11ac wireless technology delivers near
gigabit throughput to wireless devices.
MyCloud WiFi is powered by Ruckus Networks
and Broadband4 are a Ruckus Big Dog partner.
Ruckus networks are one of the few WiFi
vendors employing proprietary technology
to deliver high speed wireless access in a high
density environment.
Delivering consistent and reliable wireless
access in a classroom environment is one of the
key challenges when deploying WiFi.
Technologies such as BeamFlex+ ensure that
wireless client devices recieve the best signal
quality and the fastest connection speed
possible.
Broadband4 delivers WiFi as a Service (WaaS)
using the Virtual Smart Zone platform from
Ruckus Networks.
Many wireless solutions require an expensive on
premises controller. Broadband4 have invested
heavily in a Virtual Smart Zone infrastructure,
located inside the Broadband4 core network
and hosted in multiple datacentre locations for
resilience.
The Ruckus Wireless Virtual Smart Zone
dashboard allows school’s full control over their
wireless network, from configuration and access
control, to monitoring of performance and
troubleshooting.
Broadband4 also offer a complete managed solution
for schools of any size.
As no two schools are the same, Broadband4
will complete a full site survey as part of the
proposal process to make sure the network
is correctly specified to deliver the best
performance.

Voice Services
Unified communications is an effective way of improving communication
accross all departments in an educational establishment. Combining the
flexibility of a converged network infrastructure with voice and data services
allows staff to communicate more easily wherever they are in the school.
High speed internet services from Broadband4
include Voice Services as standard.
Customers signing up to our Premium Plus*
Services are entitled to a 6 handset Voice Over
IP (VoIP) system for FREE**.
Deployed as part of our onsite installation,
telephones can be deployed anywhere you
have network access currently (or over your
WiFi Network). This allows telephones to be
deployed in classrooms (an important Health
and Safety consideration) or areas where
phones were considered too expensive to
install.
Large schools with multiple campus can realise
huge savings in telecoms costs, as calls between
extensions on the same network are completely
free of charge.
All our VoIP solutions include features such as
voicemail and automated menu systems as
standard, so there are no additional licensing
costs required.
*Voice Services are available on all packages but are charged
for on lower tiers
Voice Solutions from Broadband4 can support
an unlimited number of extensions (6 are
included Free of Charge, with additional
handsets available for £99.00). The only ongoing
cost is the cost of telephone calls, which are
billed at competitive rates.
The school can in most cases keep their existing
telephone number, which will be transferred
directly to our service.

MyCloud School is a modular approach
to ICT Managed Services.
This approach allows schools to
buy in to those services which they
require now (such as internet access
and e-safety) and expand to include
WiFi and complete managed services
options as required.
MyCloud School has been designed to encompass the key
requirements of ICT provision in an evolving school. SchoolCare’s
Broadband4 network is cutting edge and can be delivered over
our own national network or via any internet facing connection,
allowing any School, anywhere to benefit from the service.

Network Services
Much talking has been done around the subject of Cloud
Services for Schools. Many solutions revolve around
Public Cloud solutions with certain education specific
customisations.
Most currently available cloud based solutions are a
complete departure from “traditional” ICT platforms and
require a great deal of adjustment both in working practices
and administration practices.
Broadband4’s MyCloud School platform is a true Private
Cloud solution 100% owned and operated by Broadband4.
The benefit of a Private Cloud solution is that it can be
customised to the needs of the organisation.
MyCloud School allows educational establishments to
leverage the benefits of a Cloud infrastructure, by reducing
on premises capital expenditure and the need to support
fleets of servers.
MyCloud School offers a full portfolio of secure remote
access services, which allow students and teachers alike
(with suitable permissions), to access school data and
applications, at any time, anywhere and on any device.
Educational establishments subscribing to the MyCloud
School platform are connected directly to our core network
and to a private VPLS network using a variety of different
next generation access technologies at speeds of up to
10Gbps. Once connected the full portfolio of MyCloud
School Managed services is available across the network.
As MyCloud School is a modular service, schools need
only to subscribe to the services which they require. Our
unique solution to deliver service over any internet facing
connection even allows schools who are currently in
contract with another provider to benefit from improved
services levels and features by joining Broadband4. Once
out of contract the school can be connected directly with
no loss of service.
Broadband4’s experienced pre-sales technical teams will
help you decide which option is best for you, by undertaking
an unbiased technical assessment of your current network
and determining the best migration path for your existing
services.
Our installation teams will work with you to migrate all
services including applications, storage and MIS into the
MyCloud School environment and ensure every application
and service is integrated into the new platform.

Connection Types
FTTC
FTTC stands for Fibre to the Cabinet.
Instead of using your existing copper
phone line from the telephone
exchange it uses a fibre-optic
connection from the exchange to the
cabinet in the street. BT are rolling
out Superfast broadband across the
country. 80% of all premises across
the UK now have FTTC available.
EoFTTC
EoFTTC stands for Ethernet over
Fibre to the Cabinet. It is the next
generation on from Fibre Broadband
and offers superfast broadband with
non-contended lines with guaranteed
SLAs. EoFFTC is fully supported by
Broadband4 and delivering speeds
up to 80 Mbps downstream. (Up to 20
Mbps uncontended)
Leased Line
Leased Line is a dedicated, fixed
bandwidth data connection.
Broadband4 would recommend a
dedicated Leased Line for larger
primary schools. A dedicated leased
line will give the school speeds with
up to a 10Gbps asymetrical service. A
dedicated leased line also comes with
a service level agreement. (Typically
with a 4 hour fix)
Broadband4 have connections with all of the major wholesale
providers (BT, Virgin, TalkTalk etc) to enable schools to get
the best possible speed, service and price.
