AFIONAS - ST. GEORGES’ BAY
Ag. Stefanos or San Stefano village, near to Avliotes, is
situated in the north west of the island and is a quiet family
resort with magnificent views and a lovely long sandy beach
with shallow water. The village has most of the standard facilities
for holidaymakers like restaurants, bars, supermarkets, gift shops,
bakery, bike and car rentals and a general information office. You
can also enjoy most water sports and the less energetic can play pool
or other games since everything is close to the beach. There are boat
trips to the island which can be arranged through San Stefano
Travel. The 4 islands (3 inhabited, one deserted) are worth visiting
for their wild nature, traditional Greek way of life and crystal clear
water. Trips depart from the local harbour at the end of the village
where you can also buy fresh fish from the fishing boats when they
return with their early morning catch. But perhaps the greatest
attraction of the village is the view from the top of the hill where
you can see San Stefano Bay, nearby Arilla Bay, the cliffs and the
islands offshore all at once. Best of course when the sun sets. The
local people have a saying that if you visit San Stefano once you
will always be a regular visitor. Near to the beach there are many
facilities like restaurants, bars, swimming pool complexes,
supermarkets, gift shops, bakeries, bike and car rentals, tourist
information offices and much more. On the beach there is a beach
bar offering fresh fruit juices, snacks, tropical cocktails and a
children’s playground. Afionas is a small, picturesque village
situated on the headland between St. George's Bay and Arilla Bay. It
has spectacular views of both bays and of the Porto Timoni
headland and bays to the west which have offered shelter to
fishermen, pirates and others for centuries. Arilla Bay and St.
George’s Bay have excellent beaches and good facilities.These are
essentially new and developing resorts which retain much of the old
world atmosphere of Corfu in that the environments and natural
features remain relatively untouched.
Il villaggio di Aghios Stefanos è situata nella parte nord
occidentale dell’isola ed è una tranquilla stazione balneare,
ideale per le famiglie, con i suoi magnifici panorami e con la
lunga e splendida spiaggia di sabbia dall’acqua bassa. Il villaggio
dispone di molte delle strutture necessarie per i turisti, come
ristoranti, bar, supermercati, negozi di articoli da regalo, forno,
biciclette ed auto da noleggiare e un ufficio di informazioni. Potrete
praticare molti sport acquatici e i meno energici potranno giocare a
biliardo o fare altri giochi, giacché tutto si trova vicino alla spiaggia.
C’è la possibilità di organizzare escursioni in barca attorno all’isola,
tramite la San Stefano Travel. Vale la pena visitare le quattro isole
(tre abitate ed una deserta) per la loro natura selvaggia, il
tradizionale stile di vita greco e le chiare acque cristalline. Per le
escursioni si parte dal porto, che si trova verso il limite del villaggio,
dove si puo comprare pesce fresco direttamente dai pescherecci,
quando ritornano dalla pesca mattutina. Probabilmente, pero, la più
grande attrazione del villaggio è la vista che si gode dalla sommità
della collina, dove si puo ammirare la Baia di Aghios Stefanos e,
accanto, quella di Arilla, le scogliere e le Isole Diapontie, tutte in
una volta. Preferibilmente al tramonto del sole. La popolazione
locale ha un detto, secondo il quale se una persona si reca ad Aghios
Stefanos una volta, dovrà diventarne fedele visitatore.
Vicino alla spiaggia ci sono molti impianti come ristoranti, bar,
piscine di vario genere, supermercati, negozi di regali, forni,
noleggio di biciclette e auto, uffici d’informazione per i turisti e altri
ancora. Sulla spiaggia c’è un bar che offre succhi di frutta fresca,
spuntini e cocktail tropicali e un parco - giochi per bambini.
Le baie di Arilla e Aghios Gheorghios offrono belle spiagge e
impianti turistici di vario genere.

Paxos with its dependency, Anti-Paxos, offers an almost
complete contrast to Corfu in that its pace of life is much
slower and more relaxed. There are countless coves and
forests, lovely walks (Paxos is only 10 klms. long and 4 klms. wide)
and many beaches to explore.
Lefkada is easily reached by bridge across the narrow channel that
separates the island from Acteon. Nearby is the 14th century
Frankish castle, Santa Maura. The eastern coastline is resplendent
with wooded offshore islets and gentle slopes while the west coast is
steep with many sandy coves. Most of the tourist development is on
the east coast at Ligia, Nidri and in the south at Poros and Vassiliki.
Ithaka, some 4 kms. off the coast of Kefalonia and it is the place
that has traditionally been associated with Homer’s ‘Odysseus’. It
has many sites of historical interest; there are Bronze Age remains in
the north near Stavros and Ancient Greek artifacts have been found
in caves in the bay of Polis, West of Stavros. There are also
interesting monasteries at Perahori and Kathara. Vathi, the capital,
is a picturesque port while Kioni, Platrithia and Frikes are
traditional villages well worth visiting. There is also a famous cave
at Nymphes near Vathi.
Zakynthos is a beautiful island off the coast of the Peloponnese
was, according to legend, named after the son of Dardanos, King of
Troy. Today it is fast becoming one of the most popular islands in
the Ionian. From its beautiful beaches to its pine-covered mountains
and lush valleys, it offers something for everyone. The capital,
Zakynthos, has been tastefully rebuilt since the 1953 earthquake and
is noted for its many fine churches, tall campanile and Venetian
fortress. Dionysos Solomos, the famous Greek poet was born here.
There are good beaches at many places on the island while excellent
views can be had from Keri. In the north near Skinari are the
famous Blue Caves.
Paxos è un'isola tranquilla ed idilliaca, 12 km circa a sud di
Corfù, facilmente raggiungibile con il traghetto,
direttamente dalla stessa città di Corfù (3 h) o da Sivota (1 h
e 30). Insieme ad Anti Paxos, contrappone al ritmo frenetico, tipico
della vita corfiota, la sua rilassatezza. Vi si trovano innumerevoli
boschi e baie ed è l'ideale per chi ama fare passeggiate (Paxos è
lunga 10 km e larga 4) Offre spiagge incantevoli.
Lefkada è facilmente raggiungibile attraverso il ponte sullo stretto
canale che separa l'isola dall'Acteon. Nelle vicinanze si trova Santa
Maura, un castello franco, risalente al XIV sec. Quest'isola
montuosa offre alcune delle più incantevoli baie e grotte di tutto lo
Ionio. La sua costa orientale è caratterizzata da tante piccole isolette
verdeggianti subito fuori dal porto e da dolci pendii, mentre quella
occidentale è ripida, con grotte sabbiose. Le zone turisticamente più
sviluppate sono, sulla costa orientale, Ligia e Nidri e, Poros e
Vassiliki.
Itaca è una deliziosa piccola isola di circa 4 kmq, proprio di fronte
alle coste di Cefalonia, ed è nota per essere stata la patria
dell'omerico Ulisse. L'isola è ricca di luoghi d'interesse storico, dal
momento che, tra l'altro, vi rimangono resti dell'età del bronzo
(vicino a Stavros), mentre, a Perachori e Kathara, si trovano
interessanti monasteri. Vathi, il capoluogo, è un porto pittoresco,
mentre Kioni, Platrithia e Frikes sono villaggi tradizionali che vale
la pena visitare. A Nimfes, presso Vathi, c'è una grotta famosa.
Zacinto: Questa bella isola, posta di fronte alle coste del
Peloponneso, prese il nome dal figlio di Dardano, re di Troia. Oggi
sta, e a ragione, diventando una delle più frequentate tra le Isole
Ionie. Per la varietà del paesaggio, dalle belle spiagge alle montagne
coperte di pini e alle valli dalla vegetazione lussureggiante, offre a
tutti qualcosa di diverso.
Paxos ist eine ruhige und idyllische Insel ca. 12 km südlich
von Korfu und per Fähre leicht von Korfu (3 St.) oder
Syvota (1.5 St.) zu erreichen. Der ruhige und entspannte
Lebensrhythmus hier und auf der Nebeninsel Antipaxos stehen in
starkem Kontrast zu der Korfus. Zahllose kleine Buchten und
Wälder, angenehme Spazierwege (Paxos ist nur 10 km long und 4
km breit) und viele Strände erwarten Sie.
Lefkada erreicht man leicht über die Brücke, die den schmalen
Kanal zwischen Aktio und der Insel überspannt. In der Nähe die
fränkische Burg Santa Maura (14. Jh.). Die bergige Insel besitzt
einige der schönsten Buchten im Ionischen Meer. Die O-Küste fällt
sanft ab und ist mit kleinen bewaldeten Inselchen abgesetzt, während
