The next Shawclough/Healey Local Area Forum will be held on Thursday 8th
September 2016, 6.30pm at Syke Methodist Church, Syke Road, Rochdale.
If you have any issues or concerns please come along to air your views. You
can help to make a difference in your community.
Heywood Market Hall - Opening Times
Tuesdays 8.30am – 5.00pm
Fridays 8.00am – 5.00pm
Saturdays 8.00am – 5.00pm
Syke Walk and Talk Group
The Syke Walk and Talk Group meet every Monday at 1.00 pm and Friday
10.00am at Syke Methodist Chapel where there will be toilet facilities and
hot drinks and socialising after the walks. There are 2 levels on the walk on
Monday, a high quick walk and a slower one. There are also three levels on a
Friday. A high fast walk, an intermediate walk and a slower one if needed.
So there is something to suit everyone and all abilities. The Syke Walk and
Talk group also meet on Tuesday at 10am from outside the Doctors Surgery
at the Cutgate shopping precinct.
Rochdale Inner Wheel Club – 4th Wednesday each Month
Rochdale Inner Wheel Club is a women's group meeting on 4th Wednesday
of each month at 7pm.They have regular speakers and also raise funds for
local, national and international charities.For more information, contact Liz

Springhill Hospice Events
Saturday 2nd July – Springy’s Sprint or Stroll
Join hundreds of Springy’s followers, hopping, skipping and jumping around
this 10km sponsored walk course. Starts 9pm from Rochdale Rugby Union
Club.
Summer Serenade – 23rd July 6pm for 6.30pm
Sit back, relax in our award winning Hospice grounds and take in the
evening sunshine, whilst listening to beautiful music at our annual Summer
Serenade. July 23rd will see our lawns laden with supporters on deck chairs
and picnic blankets, full hampers at their sides listening to the voices and
music of The Greater Manchester Police Male Voice Choir, The GMP Band and
the amazing vocals of local choir, The Voice. Tickets: £7 (inc glass of wine)

Milnrow and Newhey Carnival – Saturday 11th June
An event not to be missed!! Come along and join in the fun and help
celebrate this popular annual event which is now in it’s 48th year. There will
be a procession from Newhey to Milnrow followed by a fete with stalls and
activities. Milnrow Brass Band will lead the parade, with the Mayor and
Mayoress and the Carnival Queens. Entry to the park is free where there will
be top notch live music and a funfair that caters for all ages. There will also
be paintball, crazy golf, a variety of stalls, hot and cold food and a DJ for the
afternoon with many fun activities.If anyone would like to enter the parade,
have a stall at the park or would like more information regarding the event,

Friends of Rochdale Art Gallery, Touchstones, The Esplanade
Rochdale – Tuesday 14th June
For many years the Friends have been helping the Art Gallery to conserve and
acquire paintings for the Collection. Talks by invited speakers about historic
and contemporary art and craft are held most months with the occasional trip
to visit other art collections.On Tuesday 14th June, Hannah Leighton Boyce
will talk about her recent exhibition ‘instruments of industry’at Touchstones
which responded to collections of handtools from the museum’s archive.
Tea/coffee & biscuits served at 12.15pm to 12.45pm. Speaker 12.45pm –
1.45pm. Members £3. Non Members £4. All are welcome to join Friends of
Rochdale Art Gallery. 2015 Annual Membership £10, cheque payable to

Norden Carnival – 18th June
The preparations for this year's Carnival are coming together as everyone gets
into the 'Circus' theme. The Carnival falls on the 18th June, the Saturday
before Father's Day so it'll be ideal to pick up those last minute treats for
your Dad. There'll be plenty of entertainment at Norden School after the
parade has passed through the village. There'll be a range of funfair rides as
well as live music, too. We're really interested in hearing from anyone
interested in joining the parade. There's no fee to enter and local charities
and community groups are given a donation each year. We ask that each
group get into the spirit of the Parade and dress up in this year's theme of
'Circus'. In the past we've had local pubs, all the schools, charities and local
businesses getting involved. The parade has been getting better and better
each year - we're sure this year will exceed all expectations. If you're
