Dear Mr. Trevisani, could you<br />
please tell us what does<br />
telematics mean for Generali?<br />
The new strategy of Generali<br />
Group sets out a deep business<br />
model transformation with the<br />
aim of becoming the retail<br />
insurance leader in Europe. To be<br />
a retail organisation today means<br />
also to be strong on technology<br />
and to make an extensive use of<br />
it to respond efficiently to the new<br />
customers’ needs and market<br />
challenges.<br />

We aim to combine telematics<br />
technologies with insurance<br />
products, resulting in a virtuous<br />
i n c e n t i v e m e c h a n i s m . Th e<br />
automotive sector is typically<br />
fi t t i n g t o t h i s , w h e r e t h e<br />
installation of tools like a black<br />
b o x c a n e n c o u r a g e m o r e<br />
responsible driving among<br />
customers, helping to reduce the<br />
number of accidents and deaths<br />
on the road.<br />
Telematics solutions can also<br />
reduce the cost of insurance for<br />
clients who adopt safe driving<br />
practices, even if they belong to<br />
traditionally high risk segments.<br />
The resulting social impact of<br />
m o r e r e s p o n s i b l e d r i v i n g<br />
practices includes an increase of<br />
road safety and the reduction in<br />
fuel consumption and gas<br />
emissions. Thanks to the vehicle<br />
tracking feature, the likelihood of<br />
recovering stolen vehicles is also<br />
improved.<br />
Moreover, it enables us to<br />
intervene quickly at the site of an<br />
accident, providing an additional<br />
high value added service to the<br />
client.<br />

Finally, the ability to precisely<br />
reconstruct the accident also<br />
allows us to make a better<br />
assessment of damages and<br />
effectively combat fraud. In the<br />
insurance sector, it is essential to<br />
g a t h e r a n d s e l e c t c l i e n t<br />
information in order to offer<br />
competitive products that are<br />
tailored to their needs.<br />
We started focusing on telematics<br />
in 2010 in Italy, the most<br />
developed market after the US. In<br />
particular, we have pioneered<br />
solutions in the Italian and<br />
Spanish markets, where we<br />
launched Quality Driver in 2011<br />
and Pago Como Conduzco in<br />
2013, respectively.<br />
In all countries where we operate,<br />
we guarantee the security and<br />
protection of personal data<br />
c o l l e c t e d u n d e r t h e l o c a l<br />
regulatory framework, and we<br />
process them fairly and with due<br />
respect.<br />
We believe that proper and totally<br />
transparent data management<br />
can be a competitive advantage<br />
that may encourage customers to<br />
choose Generali rather than our<br />
competitors and protect our<br />
reputation and image.<br />
What were the main challenges<br />
you faced along the way?<br />
Since we started this telematics<br />
journey within the Generali<br />
Group, a lot of technology and<br />
