are potent factors on the reduction of the average road speed.<br />

Since the year 2000, the average number of accidents and injured people in car<br />

accidents has never stopped decreasing. By 2013, the number of accidents in<br />

Europe had decreased by 27.9% and the number of injuries has decreased by<br />

28.6%, as shown in the chart below. In the same timeframe, the number of<br />

fatalities from car accidents decreased by 54.5%.<br />

In 2014, the average road fatality rate in Europe was 51 deaths per million<br />

inhabitants. The four lower countries (including the UK) have rates below 30. East<br />

European countries including Poland have rate above 80.<br />

On the whole, between 2010 and 2014, the number of road fatalities in Europe<br />

has decreased by 18%. In some countries such as Spain and Greece where<br />

average mileage decreased brutally due to the economic slump, the decrease was<br />

even sharper at almost 30%.<br />
