SPAR FAMILY CHALLENGE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR REACH FOR A DREAM
If you have always wanted to
give back to
your community but had no
idea how, SPAR Family Challenge
has a healthy way to
help you do that.
The annual SPAR Family
Challenge fun run event on
October 8 will raise funds for
Reach for a Dream (RFAD) –
an institution for terminally-ill
children in the East
London area.
RFAD’s Eastern Cape
branch manager Ronell Davel
said they are very pleased
to have been this year’s beneficiary
because the money
raised would help terminallyill
children realise their
dreams.
“The East London community
are always supportive, not
just to us but to all the charities
and we are very grateful
for that,” she said.
By realising the dreams, Davel
said they want to bring
hope to the lives of the children.
“They forget all about their
treatment and the pain that it
brings. Their excitement is
priceless,” Davel said.
She said in one month, they
help realise at least 26
dreams. RFAD assists children
from three to 18 years
old, who are battling illnesses
such as leukaemia, HIV and
Aids, duchenne muscular dystrophy,
liver sclerosis, nephrotic
syndrome and cancer.
The SPAR Family Challenge
consists of 5km and 9.8km
runs. Participants in both races
will start from Beaconhurst
School then go along Avalon
Road, Imp Lane, Junction
Road and Hillcrest Drive and
back to finish at the school.
Eastern Cape promotions
and advertising controller Roseann
Shadrach said, with
their emphasis on family participation
and healthy lifestyles,
the SPAR Family
Challenge was a perfect fit
for the retailer.
She said participants would
be treated to some spectacular
entertainment, including a
special performance by comedian
Gino Fabbri and emcee
Graham Gordon. There
would also be lucky draw
incentives, one of which is a
spa treatment and a lunch at
Miarestate Boutique Hotel
and Spa.
Runners and walkers can
enter
on www.sparfamilychallenge
.co.za or at cycle shops in the
city until October 5. Registration
is from 10am to 7pm at
the Beaconhurst sports field
on the day before the event.
