Rotary organises eye tests for learners
THIRTEEN learners from
Schornville Primary school
had their eyes tested last
week as part of a Rotary drive.
The eye tests were done by
DM Optometrists at no cost.
Senior Elna Heuer also received
a set of bio-focals on
the day after she approached
Rotary.
“I am so happy about what
Rotary did for him. I can see
better and read now,' said
Elizabeth.
On the day twenty-five learners
were meant to have their
eyes tested but only 13 arrived
at school,' a school
spokesperson said.
“The balance will have there
eyes tested at a later date in
October,' said Rotary president
Dave Heathcote.
He said that every year Rotary
held a project which focused
on the youth as the
recipients and this year 'eye
month' was our deciding factor.
“We believe that both child
and parent need to be made
aware of any health or medical
conditions that need to be
treated in its early stages as
the youth are the future'
He said the eye testing went
off well and of the 13 learners
tested 4 needed spectacles
'and received them before
they left the premises.'
'There were children that
were unable to make it so
Dean has set aside the 28
October to examine them. He
has made arrangements with
teachers to bring them in for
the eye testing,' said Dave.
He added: 'This is great Free
service to the community and
Dean should be applauded.
Well done to also Peter and
Prittee Dhaya for all that they
did to make the testing possible
and for providing the kids
each with a party pack.
'I have given Dean Radue a
framed photo thanking him
and his staff and have also
arranged with The Bugle to
publish an article thanking
him,' said Dave.

class “The 'eye lady' who tested
my eyes told me a I need
glasses and when they gave
them to me I was so excited.
“I cannot wait to get back to
class and see things clearly
on the board,' she said.
Parent Themba Msimanga
who accompanied the children
said;' Teachers at the
school identified children with
vision problems'.
“We are grateful to Rotary and

to have their eyes
tested and those with problematic
vision dealt with
promptly and given glasses,'
