Supplementary education can reduce your
child’s stress levels and help them achieve
Every parent wants their
children to enjoy school,
achieve well and go on to lead
happy and successful lives.
Today however, more
children than ever are
complaining of stress due to
the pressures of schoolwork
and impending exams.
Talking through problems,
identifying troublesome
subjects and asking teachers
for extra work can help
reduce your child's anxiety.
However, many parents are
now looking beyond school
for additional support in the
form of supplementary
education.
There are a number of types
of supplementary education
available and it is important to
choose the right one for your
child. Whether struggling or
not, each child needs to grasp
the fundamental skills that are
vital for academic progress.
Firm foundations must be
built in core subjects and
children need to develop the
confidence and study skills to
Iearn and achieve.
Kumon Education SA is one
of the supplementary
education providers available
in South Africa. Kumon offers
Maths and English
programmes, designed to
help each child to reach his or
her potential. By treating each
child as an individual, Kumon
provides a solid foundation in
the fundamentals of Maths
and
English and allows children to
develop life-long self-learning
skills.As a result, children are
given the self-assurance to
focus and excel at school,
and to develop the
transferable skills necessary
to succeed in life.
Talking about why she
enrolled her daughter with
Kumon, Mrs Daniels explains,
"I first became interested in
Kumon because my
daughter's school marks were
good for English but a little
disappointing for Maths. I
wanted to help her achieve
her best and a family
member suggested the
Kumon programmes, so I
enrolled both of my
daughters immediateIy."
But does Kumon really make
a noticeable difference? Mrs
Daniels definitely believes so.
"I have really seen the
benefits of Kumon, in
particular how it has helped
with schoolwork and made
my daughters' studies a lot
easier and stress-free. I have
also noticed the benefits of
Kumon in theirschool exams."
Mrs van der Merwe from
Randburg agrees that
Kumon does make a genuine
difference. "After six months
Pieter's work has
significantly improved and he
has moved well ahead of his
starting point," she explains.
This has been reflected in
improving test results
throughout his school year,
culminating in an excellent
school report."
In previous years, parents
may have perceived that
looking for extra help was
admitting failure, or that they
were being too pushy. Today,
thousands of parents simply
see it as a natural part of
being a parent. By providing
their child with that extra
support they can minimise
their chiIdren's stress and
give them the best possible
chance to achieve their
dreams.
Kumon has over 300 study
centres throughout South
Africa, Namibia, Botswana,
Kenya and Zambia. To find
