AWARD TIME: King Lion Brian von der Decken receiving an award at the
Lions 410D conference held in Swellendam at the weekend
Peace Poster Contest – the
entries from our District were
on display for the delegates
to view, and the Lions
Snugglers – the sleeping
bags made from newspaper
and plastic, and a
presentation by Mr Marais
Steyn on organ and tissue
donation which was very
informative and inspiring, a
parade along the main street
in Swellendam received
waves and cheers from the
public, and there was plenty
of fellowship and fun at a
Meet ‘n Greet on the Friday
evening and a Theme
Evening on Saturday where
several Clubs performed skits
to the amusement of all
present.
Awards were presented to the
winners of the various District
Competitions and the KWT
Lions Club won the Top
Newsletter and Top Secretary
[Lion Francois de Villiers was
last year’s Club Secretary]
Awards as well the awards for
raiding other clubs and for
retention of members.
”It is hard work recruiting new
members,” Brian von der
Decken commented, “and
we do our best but it is of
perhaps greater importance
retaining those that we have
in the club because much of
the time spent of bringing in
new members is wasted if
they do not stay in the club.
'It is also very importance for
morale and for gaining new
ideas that clubs raid one
another although the cost of
travelling and the safety on
the roads makes this difficult.
We do have great fun, though,
when we go on raids.”
The KWT Lions Club is proud
of the service that its
members are able to perform
in our community, which is
largely thanks to the support
of the businesses and the
media and always
encourages service-minded
volunteers to join a service
club and to help to make a
difference in the lives of
those in need.
