PSLOD suffered a great loss which was felt by many 

across the great spectrum of the greater leather 

and LGBT community the passing of their beloved 

club member David Murdock due to natural causes. 

His impact on all of us will not soon be forgotten 

and yet, it is with great pride that we honor his 

memory and celebrate his many achievements by 

forging ahead to ensure our attendees and vendors 

that we are making every effort to produce a 

weekend event worthy of the man who for so many 

years made this event possible. We ask that during 

this weekend in his memory we make it a point to 

celebrate his life, after all, David would be one of 

the very first to acknowledge the show must go

THE SYMBOLS OF GAY PRIDE 2 

People in the gay community have found 

Last week this article discussed the beginning 

history of the symbols and colors 

of gay pride. The Rainbow flag has been 

and continues to be the primary symbol of 

the LGBT community. There is however, 

several other symbols that have historical 

significance for Gay Pride. 

The victory over AIDS flag used the Rainbow 

Flag with a black stripe at the bottom 

to remember those who have been lost to 

Aids. Sergeant Leonard Matlovitch a Vietnam 

veterans who suffers from aids, suggested 

that when a cure for AIDS is found 

that all the black stripes on the AIDS flags 

should be removed and taken to Washington 

and burned as a celebration for finding 

the cure. 

The International Bear Brotherhood Flag 

was adopted in 1995 to represent the fur 

colors of bears in stripes with a bear paw 

print in the upper left corner of the flag. 

It is presented by the Bear Community to 

show love and gratitude. 

These are additional symbols of GAY 

PRIDE that represent and celebrate the 

inclusion of LGBT people as liberated in 

their individuality and equal in the human 

community.

Not to forget our gay sisters who have 

shared the persecution and struggles along 

with the rest of the LGBT community. The 

pink triangle was used to denote gay males 

in the Nazi concentration camps however 

the criminalization of sexual acts among 

men did not include lesbians. A black triangle 

designated asocial women in concentration 

camps along with lesbians, prostitutes, 

feminists, and women who refused 

to bear children. The common symbol for 

lesbians today is the interlocking female 

symbols, borrowed from the astrological 

sign of Venus. The labrys is a double edged 

axe historically used by the Amazons and 

Greek goddess Demeter. It is used today as 

a symbol of strength and independence in 

the lesbian community. 

The letter for L in the Greek alphabet, the 

lambda has been used since the 1970’s 

when the Gay Activist Alliance borrowed it

The Fads are in your favor. Remember 

when men were balding and a 

full head of hair is what was in? Well, 

one bald guy decided to shave it and 

bald men were the rage. I HAVE a full 

head of hair. SNAP! So I couldn’t be 

one of the “No Hair Club for Men”. 

I am also a drag, so my job has me 

shaving my face. Hence I am portraying 

a woman. A Woman doesn’t have 

a beard with glitter in it. Speaking of 

the new bearded drag concept? Grow 

that beard and you are suddenly hot. 

Well the beards just covering their 

face. So be bald with a beard and lots 

of glitter, because you can, but I’ll 

stick to being old school. 

You can be old school while also 

being inventive. The world is always 

on and at your fingertips. The world 

has given you many opportunities to 

do so. So, do it!!! 

It’s hard to do life’s struggles. Life 

is NOT easy. It’s called a struggle. 

Change that word “struggle” to a word 

more positive and relatable. Positive 

thoughts are what will help you 

achieve your goals. SO, always stay 

positive. Remember that not everyone 

can be an A list movie star, but 

it will help accomplishing your goals. 

You have to do the work and change 

your mind set. This is the one time 

the word positive is a great thing.

Wow – 15 days until the election! Won’t that be nice. 

CNN, MSNBC, ABC, etc. can all get back to reporting real 

news and Fox can move on to the next “scandal” but 

finally we will be done hearing about the Republican 

nominee for President. 

As a candidate, myself this year, for reelection to the City 

Council in Cathedral City, I must say that I will personally 

be glad to have the election behind me regardless 

of the outcome. The negativity from the national campaign 

has seeped down to the local level. Bitterness, 

bile and slander abound on Facebook and Nextdoor – 

and whatever other social networking sites there might 

be. I even went to an Italian dinner at a local church 

on Friday night and there were folks there that weren’t 

speaking to each other because they disagree on a local 

ballot measure! What’s that all about??? 

It has been good though getting out and walking 

door – to – door. My team and I walked today in one 

of the lower income neighborhoods in the City. Without 

exception, the people who came to the door were 

friendly, outgoing, interested in what was happening in 

their city and neighborhood and genuinely grateful that 

a candidate, let alone a Councilman, had come to stop 

at their door for a few minutes. A bonus was my Fitbit 

hitting 12,000 steps today!
