Maverick Minutes
by Jan MayoWhen
Rocky kindly inquired if I was ready for
him to start the meeting I stuffed in the rest of
the cookie and nodded. Charlie was the first
around the table and he proudly stated that the truxster
has new license plates. He noticed last week they were
6-months out of date.
Teri is looking for a couple more folks interested in
helping run a check point for the MADD rally next weekend. It would
also be nice to have people enter as the money donation is for a great
cause plus it will be a really easy rally.
Teri started a round of End-of-Year Trophy discussions. We
touched on the AX/TT trophies, even though Bryan Bell was not there as
well as the rally trophies. Are trophies accounted for in everybody’s
(anybody’s) budgets? Will Club Race give a trophy again and how about
DE folks and instructors?? Somebody mentioned that Dennis
Chamberlain should get a trophy for the most cocktails at the Happy
Hours. The Selcer trophy was brought up and the fact that there’s a small
“keeper”trophy that goes with it, which Rocky hadn’t known about. What
about the Gregg Murrell award? What about mention of tours? I think
somewhere in there Rocky said he’d contact Andy Miller about the tours
and Lisa will get the standings from Bryan and/or James’ website. Whew~
After a small lull Christy Dominick said the Goodie Store is online
and will get PayPal incorporated to make ordering and paying easier.
She is going to start a “For a Limited Time” feature so she can order and
turn around product quicker.
The full-room-nearly-standing-applause interrupted Denny Payne
mid-sentence when he said he would take over the website. Steve Boyd
is stepping down after several years of fabulous work. We sincerely thank
Steve for designing the Maverick site and getting it up and running. He
has put a ton of invisible man-hours working on it so Denny has some
large shoes to fill, but he’s ready and looking forward to it.
There was a quiet spot so Rocky jumped in with a report for
Keith Chambers saying the response for January Ski Trip has been
astounding……ly non-existent. The information will be put on the
Website with a link. The reason there was a quiet spot is because James
was next and he said he was only there for the food.
Wendy brought us up to date on Lanean’s condition and hospital
stay. For those that are interested in her fight against lung cancer contact
Wendy for the link to the blog she has created just for this. Wendy
reported on the progress made the past several weekends at the Hope
Shelter. Linda Bambina is keeping a spreadsheet list of progress, needs
and wants, and volunteers. Clara Lewis is coordinating the work while at
the shelter. The kids’ play room will be decorated in cars, checker flags
and the German colors of black, red and gold. Individuals, couples
and small grouplets are taking charge of sponsoring the bedrooms;
furnishing and decorating them. Christy and Tracey seconded a move
made by Mark Gluck to donate $3,000 towards these final preparations.
What happened to the “buy a brick” thing that was going on this time last
year. We think it was minimal.
Wendy finished up saying the AX/TT #6 had great participation, the
charity AX is this weekend and Oct Slipstream was going to the mailhouse
tomorrow. She’s continually plagued with delays so will start
moving everyone’s deadlines forward. Information on future events is
slim and Wendy was wondering if there was a 2007 Calendar Committee.
Whoever it is needs to know that Tom Snodgrass requests the schools
take place later rather than earlier so we don’t have to stand in the snow
during registration. The AX/TT committee is waiting to set their dates
till they hear from the DE and Club Race committee. The DE/CR
committee had sent out a survey asking for date preferences and they
were waiting to talk about it this weekend. Tracey suggested January 20
for the New Member party then that was talked about as to why does it
need to be in January (nothing else is happening) or can it be in Feb or
Mar or combined with Father’s Day.
It’s finally my turn to speak and I’ve finished the cookie. Next month
I will present the board with a list of equipment that I will need to take
over Slipstream since I do not personally have a fully equipped office to
rival any professional’s dream like the Shoffits’ household.
Bill Dawson continued with the scheduling dates thread saying that
we’re getting very good rates from MSR and we’re in competition with
Drivers Edge for the premium dates. Registration for the Oct event is
starting slow and it’s been noted that White and Yellow run groups tend
to fill slower. They feel these drivers wait to watch the weather before
they commit monetarily to the weekend. The committee is discussing
adding a $25 to $50 late fee.
New Advertiser Lady of Steele, Lisa has been talking with Eagle
Canyon on a possible Slipstream Ad. They have contributed towards
the Founder’s Day raffle (You MUST come to take advantage of this
wonderful donation!)
Tracey Gross had a call from Poor Ranch (??) to come do a Happy
Hour. She’ll investigate. She has 23 signed up for Premier Wines of
Plano’s wine tasting and needs 30 to break even, would be even happier
with 40. She reported latest plans for Founder’s Day: dinner on the Palm
Terrace, Hula dancers and pictures. Holiday Party will be at the home of
Bill and Virginia Campbell and Tracey is investigating catering the food
this year instead of the pot luck bring stuff.
Michael Wingfield repeated Bill’s Oct DE entry numbers and that he
had them right other than the 3 latest entries that Bill didn’t know about.
Bill took back the floor to report that he has completed all the reports and
paperwork concerning the incident at September’s event and considers
it settled.
Mark Gluck was concerned, from the VP/Insurance guy position, of
the picture in last month’s Slipstream of some go-karts promoting the
Happy Hour at Speed Zone. He said that PCA insurance does not cover
go-kart events. The upcoming Happy Hour is a social event that will take
place at Speed Zone, after which what people choose to do is up to them.
Rocky discussed the look of the ballots for Founder’s Day
voting wanting the individual proposals listed for a Y/N vote on each
individually. This will eliminate the event of something being blindly
approved/disapproved within a bunch of others. He would also like a
one-line synopsis of each line item.
We discussed continuing the special invitation to our Slipstream
Sponsors and also the 20 year members. Wendy has an idea in mind for
these special invitations. Rocky then asked about moving the November
board meeting ahead one week so it would be in front of Founder’s Day
in case any executive discussion needed to take place days prior to the
event. So please note that Wednesday, November 1, 2006, will be the next
board meeting at Hackberry Creek.
