The Inside Track by Rocky Johnson, the Maverick Region President The Maverick Region was well represented at the 15th annual “First Ever Anywhere,” PCA Club Race at Pueblo Motorsports Park in Colorado in September. The Colorado folks are always big supporters of our race, so it was nice to have a good showing for theirs. Leslie and Jim Buckley, Rosemary and Colin Graidage, Bryan Henderson, Bill Miller, Keith Olcha, and Judy and I were there. Mike Lapp and Steve Marshall hung out with us and were honorary Mavericks for the weekend. In what has to be a long distance award for a DE, Pat Benson did dual duty as a race worker and DE participant. As you would expect, if you know them, the Colorado guys were great hosts. The weather got progressively nicer (read cooler) as the weekend progressed and the track was fast and dry on race day. The track wasn't the only thing that was fast. In F and G, where most of us ran, locals like Jesse Wurmbrand, Mike Martin in F and Dave Stribling in G, showed us the way. Bryan managed podium finishes in both races and Jim in one. Keith led the way with two wins in C, but even he would tell you the competition in his class was not that significant. I managed to knock 5 seconds off of my best lap time from two years ago; but that still left me several seconds behind Jesse, who set his personal best time on the track during qualifying. On the whole, it was a fun weekend. Yes, it's a long drive, but the beautiful scenery, especially in the Texas panhandle, made the miles fly by. (If you believe that, I need to talk to you about some investment property I have.) 5
