Our fearless leader was a man
on a mission this month. He
had a lot of “HOPE” in his
heart. Mike shared his passion about a
new project for the Hope Shelter. Mike
has learned that the backyard of the Hope
Shelter is in dire need of an “extreme
makeover.” He made the comment that
the yard looks “junkie” and not kid friendly. Linda Bambina
has been doing a lot of research on playground equipment,
irrigation, and landscaping. The projected cost of
this project is around $22,000. Linda has found a great deal
on playground equipment that would need to be purchased
quickly to get a more than half price discount. The cost of
the equipment will be about $8,000. Currently, we have
$2,400 to give to the Hope Shelter (donations from various
driving events and donations made on clubregistration.
net). A motion was called by Christy Payne for the club to
commit to pay up to $6,000 with the intent that the club will
recover all or part of our donation and that we will gather
these funds by May 1st. Lisa Steele 2nd the motion. A vote
was taken and it was a unanimous vote in agreement of the
motion. Christy agreed to make an ad for Slipstream and
we will follow up with a Fun Drive to collect donations.
Jim Falgout passed out the Budget for 2010. All Chairs
submitted their budgets for each of their events for the 2010
budget. Wendy Shoffit made a motion to approve the 2010
budget that runs from January thru December. John Hamilton
2nd the motion. Unanimous approval! Jim finished
with telling us that “We have money!”
Chris Christensen is looking for any recommendations
for good places to have a Happy Hour.
Bob Lewis showed the board a great brochure designed
by his granddaughter, Sabrina Gunica. This brochure contains
general information and requests for what the club
wants at happy hour locations. Great idea!!
John Hamilton reported that we have 85 actual drivers
registered for the upcoming DE at Eagles Canyon. John
was excited to announce that we will be expecting some
very important guests at the DE. Kurt and Angie Gibson
(our national president and his wife) are registered to drive
with us. Something new for this DE will be name badges
for all drivers.
Carey Spreen thinks it would be fun to have a Drive/
Rally to Scarborough Fair. He will talk with Clint Blackman.
Carey is looking at May 9th for this “medieval adventure.”
Jan Mayo speaking for Richard Bradley wants to make
sure that recent events and upcoming events will have people
to write articles. Also, events need to have ads ready to
place in Slipstream.
Jan Mayo speaking for herself reported that there are
about 6 advertisers that have still not paid…”I pity the people
who still need to pay, cause Jan is gonna get mean.”
Bryan Bell would like to be John Hamilton’s instructor
at the upcoming Autocross School (could it be the car???).
Christy Payne reported that there was a great turn out
at the Thursday Lunch at Kincaid’s with 12 people. She
has also been working very diligently on her Social Budget
which includes some great upcoming social events. Christy
announced that she is planning a Father’s Day Outing at
Speed Zone. Zoom! Zoom! She has also been busy working
out all of the details for the combined Founder’s Day
and Holiday Party at the Gaylord Texan. Christy is looking
at December 4th for this event pending the Gaylord’s calendar.
Ms. Event Planner herself, Christy has also arranged
for the Autocross/Time Trial Awards Dinner to take place at
Dave and Busters. She will talk with Tannia Dobbins (AX
Chair) and schedule accordingly.
Wendy Shoffit announced that the Parade registration
form is on the website. Actual registration opens on March
9th.
