Sights from Savannah.
On Thursday we headed back to the
autocross venue so Robyn could work
her volunteer shift and we both could
cheer on James and Wendy Shoffit, and
Ed Mayo who was Autocrossing his
Concours winning 1967 911S. James
and Wendy both took first place in their
class, and Wendy continued her three
year reign with the FTD Ladies win.
On Friday I competed in my other
event, the Technical and Historical
Quiz. I had an hour and a half to answer
50 questions on Porsche history and 25
question specifically on 914’s. What I
did learn from the quiz is I know more
about 914’s than I do Porsche history.
Missing only five questions about 914’s
and 25 questions on Porsche history, the
score was good enough for third place.
I lost second place to Manny Alban,
the PCA National President, by one tie
breaker question.
I’m not sure what Robyn did Friday
because I spent the next six hours at the
PCA Tech Academy learning subjects
ranging from how to properly detail
your Porsche to how ODBII works in
newer cars. I ended up the day earning a
PHD and becoming a “Doctor of
Porschelogy,” I’m serious, I have the diploma.
That evening at the Autocross
banquet the Mavericks received their
trophies. As Parade drew to a close on
Saturday we attended the Victory banquet
where a preview of next year’s Parade
is presented. I asked Robyn if she
had had a good time and enjoyed the
experience of the Porsche Parade. With
a big smile on her face she said she can’t
wait till next year, Salt Lake City, here
we come. What I have learned from being
in the Porsche Club is that owning a
Porsche can be a special experience, but
that experience is not complete till you
share it with 1500+ other Porsche enthusiasts.
