Our May
meeting
started at
7:05pm. President
John Hamilton
welcomed the
group and our
four guests, Bruce
McQuaid, Renee Farinella, and
Rick and Rebecca Robinson.
First up, here are our membership
numbers for April and May. These
are 2122 and 2147, respectively. I
promised Lisa Steele I’d include
both months. I know that she and
the membership committee have
worked very hard to attract new
members and increase our membership
renewals. The results speak
for themselves as our total membership
has grown every month
since April 2011. Congratulations
to you all on a job well done.
Travis Howard followed with
a discussion of the most recent
Autocross event at Mineral
Wells. The turnout was great and
those of us who did the Sunday
Drive on May 27 got to drive the
course and learned more about
Autocross. Equally as important, I
finally got to see the world famous
“Truckster” in action. Words
cannot describe the Truckster so
I’ll invite you to see for yourself
at the next Autocross event.
Robyn Howard mentioned that the
June 2nd Drivers’ Education (DE)
event was very successful. Note to
self: Make sure to wave to Robyn
if you see her working a corner at
a DE event. “No wave, no save.”
Christy Payne noted that the May
at Mayo’s event was fun and profitable
to the region. (Do you think
it was the world famous margaritas
or the Porsches?) Thanks
to Ed Mayo, Tom Petrushka,
and all of the organizing staff

for a great event. The margaritas
and the cars were awesome!
Christy also said that raffle ticket
sales are strong. More information
about the raffle, a week-long trip
to Germany for two, is available
elsewhere in Slipstream and online.
Lastly, Christy mentioned that the
location for the Southlake monthly
luncheon might have to change to
another location in the metroplex
due to State Highway 114 construction
traffic around Southlake.
Linda Bambina mentioned that
she had a great time leading the
sing-along at May at Mayo’s, and
also thanked the organizing committee
and the margaritas. The
Goodie Store is now selling 18 x
24 art print and 20 x 30 poster
versions of our 50th anniversary
photoshoot taken at Texas Motor
Speedway in April. Stay tuned for
a story and photo in Panorama
describing this event. Lastly, she described
the upcoming Father’s Day
picnic at the home of Doris and
Dave Casey in Copper Canyon, TX.
Photos will be forthcoming regarding
the Costume Concours event!
Luke Edson reported that the
DE equipment is working well.
Jim Falgout indicated that our
financial position continues to
improve with the success and
profitability of our regional events.
Ed Mullenix noted that a tech
session is being planned for later
this fall. The subject is about how
to care for your convertible top.
Jack Griffin reported the success
of the May at Mayo’s event as well as
the Autos in the Park event at Cooper
Clinic on June 3. My wife and
I both went to the latter and really
enjoyed all of the great cars there.
Jack also mentioned the May
tech session with Andy Kay. Fortunately
I had the opportunity to
“drop by” Jack’s Garage for this
tech session. First of all, Jack has a
garage second to none. Secondly,
you should have seen all of the
Porsches lining the streets of his
neighborhood. That was one
for the history books! Great job,
Andy and Jack, for a great event.
Brendan Eagan was next and
noted that 22 cars participated
in the May Sunday Drive. This
featured an awesome route out
west to Mineral Wells and an
Introduction to Autocross event
as the finale to the drive.
John Harvey described the June
Sunday drive to Echo Springs
Blueberry Farm on June 24 in
East Texas. I drove parts of that
route last year and enjoyed that
drive immensely. Kudos to Brendan
Eagan, Gareth Maurice, and
John and BJ Harvey who have
worked hard to create great Sunday
Drive experiences for you.
Carey Spreen noted that the
Slipstream magazines are being
delivered earlier in the month now.

Bruce McQuaid said he enjoyed
attending the meetings and is
looking forward to helping out.

Renee Farinella indicated that
she is working on an article about
the Autos in the Park event.
Given her lexigraphic command
of the English language, that’ll
be some good reading. I make no
claims to my grammatical skills,
