Our May
meeting
started
at 7:05pm.
President John
Hamilton welcomed
the group
and our three
guests, M.L. Spear, Bruce Mc-
Quaid, and Renee Farinella.
Secretary Madhu Rao reminded
the board that planning for our
2013 election starts in June by
identifying a nomination committee
to manage the election process.
Stay tuned for more information.
VP Tom Minnella noted he
has followed up on the insurance
certificates for upcoming
events. He also discussed the
Possum Kingdom area as a possible
venue for upcoming events
later this year or next year.
Newsletter Editor Carey Spreen
updated the board that Slipstream
production is going well. He
is moving forward the mailing
date by a few days so you can
get your monthly copy earlier.
Next up was M.L. Speer, who
stated he was “enjoying the meeting.”
M.L., glad you could join us.
Concours Chair Jack Griffin
described the annual May at Mayo’s
event. This year it will be on May 5
so yes, it will truly be a “Cinco de
Mayo” event. Sounds like a lot of
fun. I have heard about the worldfamous
margaritas and Mexican
food served there from people who
previously attended. That sounds
good to me and so does checking
out the early model Porsches that
the Mayo team is working on. It’s
a busy month for Jack as he is
hosting a tech session on May 19
at “Jack’s Garage” on the “The Art
of Preparing Your Car,” not just

for Concours competition, but
for the daily rigors of everyday
driving. Demonstrations will be
done by PCA Member Andy Kay of
Blue Ribbon Detailing. Jack also
reminded us about the upcoming
Autos in the Park event June 3 at
the Cooper Clinic. That was a great
event last year and I am looking
forward to it again this year.
Pat Friend shared an update
about several new Slipstream
advertisers. That is great news!
Pat also mentioned that we are
current on advertising receivables.
That is great news, too!
Bruce McQuaid, another one
of our guests, was interested in
attending a board meeting and
finally was able to do so. Bruce,
we are glad you could join us.
DE Chair Lori Mauthe noted that
April Drivers’ Education event was
profitable. That is great news! She
also described the recent training/coaching
for instructors as
being well received with several
comments and compliments. She
mentioned that having separate
registration categories for instructors
is going well. Lastly, Lori enthusiastically
described the registration
for the June 2 DE which continues
to build. If you are interested,
please sign up as soon as you are
able to for this one day event.
The entire DE team really does
go to great lengths to provide the
Maverick Region the best driving
experience. Hey Lori, can you do
anything with the 635 corridor?
Tourmeister John Harvey was very
happy with the turnout for the
April Bluebonnet drive. A total of
46 cars and 85 people participated.
There were four group leaders to
help manage the flow. John also
reminded everyone about the May
27 Sunday Drive, which has an

incorporated into the tour. Lastly,
he reminded us about the June
24 Echo Springs Blueberry Farm
Sunday Drive. For more information

Renee Farinella, our third
guest, shared some ideas about
regional communications by
increasing our “share of voice”
with the local media. Renee, we
are all “ears” about this idea.
Membership Chair Lisa Steele
was excited to annonunce that
our total membership exceeded
2100 for the first time ever!
Social Chair Christy Payne mentioned
that the 50 Years of Porsches
car, food, and photo event at the
Texas Motor Speedway on April 28
had 292 attendees. She also noted
the event was profitable. As many
of you know, Christy and the rest
of the social team do a great job
planning and managing our events.
If you have an interest to help
out, please let them know. Our
“Help Wanted” sign is up all year!
PR Chair Linda Bambina added
that it was great to see some surprise
faces (from the past and
present) show up at the 50 Years of
Porsches event. I had the opportunity
to attend and I am glad I did.
There are some great Porsches in
our region and I enjoyed meeting
their owners at this event. The food
was excellent and I appreciate the
dedication of all of the volunteers.
Charlie Davis took some great
aerial photos from a boom crane of
the Porsches. Kudos to Mark Steele
who took some great “land based”
photos at the event as well. You will
be seeing the photo and article in
upcoming issues of Slipstream and
