Cinco de Mayo at Mayo’s By Silva Cohen Cinco de Mayo at Mayo’s proved once again that the Mavericks have to be the friendliest and most heartwarming group of people to ever get together over a bunch of cars. From the bounce house for the kids that also allowed adults after they had warmed up the Margarita Machine, to the Concours in the parking lot, to the buffet provided by On The Border, the stage was set for a great time. The focus of the get-together was the Concours held in the parking lot in front of Mayo Performance in Euless. Twenty five owners committed their time and effort to get their cars ready for the event. It was my first Concours event, and it should be obvious to all that I have a lot to learn about gearheads and their passion. But I was happy to hear some of the comments of other attendees. I was not the only person voting on a car because its color complimented my dress, or because This year’s event had a decidedly Mexican theme I thought the staging of the antique Photos by Linda Bambina Buffet catered by On the Border - two lines, no waiting! suitcases in the back complimented the antiquity of the car. Technical issues of the vehicle just overwhelmed the processing of my brain and couldn’t be considered. Fortunately, there were plenty of people there to assess those issues and vote accordingly. After much deliberation, congratulations were given to Richard 14
Adams (924/944/968/928), Colt Klatt (Boxster/Cayman), Frank Briggs (964/993), Jason and Carrie Morske (996/997), and Myra and Jerry Sutton (Cayenne). A great dinner was enjoyed following the voting, along with music provided by the Greatest DJ in the World, John Hamilton. The afternoon closed out with the John Hamilton skillfully jockeyed disks for our entertainment Cross for his 1964 356 (356 class and Best in Show), Betty Perrine (914), Steve Skelton (Early 911), Jay Moore (911 SC/Carrera), Rob Jasmine Shoffit and Sydney Steele made sure the bounce house was always bouncing Our perennial host and event namesake, Ed Mayo vocal stylings of Larry Ramsey and Linda Bambina, serenading us with “Friendship,” by Cole Porter, and herding us out the door with Happy Trails. Thank you to our gracious host, Ed Mayo of Mayo Performance, and to our Social Chair, Christy Payne. You continue to amaze with your organizational skill and dedication to us all!
