Smile for the Camera: Second Annual Photography Workshop By Charlie Davis On August 15 we held the second MR-PCA Photography Workshop. Our goal in conducting these Workshops is to encourage and enable members to take excellent pictures, which usually requires they be edited. We need more great pictures for Slipstream and our website. Some attendees this year had new cameras that they needed help understanding. Others had old cameras that they still hadn’t mastered. I think we answered most questions and also provided ways to get more information. We had several Porsches in the parking lot at the Old Bedford School in Bedford, where we held this Workshop. I challenged the students to go outside and take pictures with both a Person and a Porsche in each picture. They could make either one the “subject”, but I wanted them to capture both in one image. They did pretty well with this task! There is a gallery of their submissions on the Region website: just click on the “Photo Gallery” tab and keep going down to the gallery: 2015/Social Events/Photography Workshop. Not all the images had both People and Porsches, but many did. The cover photo for this issue was taken by Stephanie Ho. It was one of the pictures that didn’t include a Person, but it had her shoes as human surrogate. One style that was popular was reflecting a Person in Porsche paint. This example by Bruce Hildewig is a good example: Not only did he get P&P, he also got the Old School in the background. He was captured taking this picture by two other photographers, including this one by Steve Perrin: Photos courtesy of the Author Now we know the Person whose reflection is in Bruce’s shot! Another genre is the ubiquitous short depth-of-field capture, where much of the background is out-offocus. A couple of us did this type shot. Here is one of mine: I made the subject the antique mailbox of the Old School, but also got People and Porsches in background. the Barbara Kauffmann’s approach was to take a “selfie in Porsche paint [Travis Howard’s Boxster]: 12 October
