Shifting Gears: Something for everyone

Well, October finally arrived.
Cooler weather is here and
lots of activities for you to enjoy
your Porsche. We have everything
from Time Trials, Drivers’ Education,
Rally, and Autocross, for those of you
who like competitive driving events.
Lunches, Socials, and Sunday Drives
(could be included in driving event) for those of you
who prefer events that are not so competitive. Of course,
many of you go for both types of events. So enjoy!
Soon after
October we
will have our
biggest social
event of the year,
Founders’ Day.

year, Founders’ Day. It
is a celebration of our
Region, and it includes
a Photography Contest
and a silent auction to
raise money for one
of our charities. It is a
black tie optional event
at Bent Tree Country
Club, which is where
we held it last year. It was a fun event. This event is
planned and organized by our Social Committee which
is chaired by Tracy Robertson. Get ready, here it comes!
She NEEDS YOUR HELP. We need folks to assist her,
especially with obtaining items for the Silent Auction. If
you can assist her in any way with this important event,
please contact Tracy at social@mavpca.org.
I have another request for assistance. At the September
Board meeting your Board approved establishing a
committee to evaluate charitable requests. Part of our
charge from Porsche Club of America is to support our
communities. I had some volunteers from the Board,
but I want some non-board club members to assist with
this important task. If you would like to
support your club in this area, please contact
me at president@mavpca.org. YOUR
CLUB NEEDS YOU . . . to get involved.
You will really be glad you did.
I recently attended a Cars and Coffee
that is held at a competing auto dealer
in far North Dallas. There was section coned off for
Porsche, thanks to one of our members. I met other
members and non-members. Two of the non-members
whom I met actually joined the next day. However,
there were at least two long-time members who said
they never come to club events. They did indicate that

they read Slipstream. So, if you are one of those,
please try something. We have so much to offer and you
can meet some really neat people. It really is “not just the
cars, it’s the people”.
Finally, remember to vote in your club’s annual officer
elections. The ballot can be found on page 11.
Mav of the Month
And speaking of people: it is the dream of every volunteer
organization to have a new member come along
who takes on a major task, does a great job, and then
takes on additional tasks which enhance the club experience
for others. Your club has been the benefactor of
just such a member in Jim Hirsch. Soon after joining,
he took on the gargantuan task of Slipstream editor. He
is not only doing
a great job at
that, but also set
up a Twitter account
and is
monitoring our
Facebook page.
For all those reasons,
