Autocross Update: Lone Star Park AX #7 & #8

Event #7 was
the first of
the combined
PCA/Equipe
Rapide events
to have a PCA
member as Event
Master. This created
an opportunity
to design a course with some of the
classic Porsche Club elements and
to open up some more higher-speed
sections of the Lone Star Park site.
PCA Members stepped in nicely at
this event. John and Gary Leto are
now on the permanent tech crew to
help speed the on-site tech process.
Sigrid Schnoerr is the permanent
Worker Chief and keeps that part
running smoothly. I got to step in as
the Event Master at this event.
Ninety-six entrants, almost 40 of
whom signed up on site, were split
into two groups for morning and
afternoon runs. Everyone got six
timed runs, and the first car off was
at 10 am. Timed runs were finished
at 3:30 pm, followed by the awards
and PAX cash payouts. The Porsche
classes have their own PAX cash payout
now, so some drivers went home
with something more than the Designer
Award Shirts.

Three very fast 914s with four drivers
fought it out in in class P10. Rick
Gonzales brought his black 914/6 in
just 0.2 ahead of Richard Reeves’ recently
acquired fully-prepped 914/6
race car. Richard was sorting out
some transmission problems that
finally took him out. Rick is going
to have a good fight with Richard.
John and Gary had some issues with
their, of late, great-running 914/4
race car.
In class P7, it was a Cayman vs 911
battle, with Cayman driver Brian
Ogle just ahead of Matthew Cords,
followed closely by Ray Gibson in
his very nice Carrera 4S. Ray found
oversteer and got that 4S nice and
sideways, maybe a little too sideways
at least one time, keeping those guys
honest.

Cayman S PDK in the SCCA Expert
Class. What a great sounding and
terrifically fast Porsche! They are going
to the SCCA Autocross Nationals
in September.
Event #8 was on September 6,
again at Lone Star Park. The nice
grassy and shaded spectator areas
were important on this unusually
hot September day. It was a fast and
challenging course that made good
use of the elevation and camber
changes. We had some close battles
in the Porsche classes, some new
members, and some first-time autocrossers.
Sunday, October 4 is the PCA Time
Trial on the 1.3-mile course at MotorSport
Ranch in Cresson. Let’s
hope some of the fast Porsche track
cars make this one to wrest the top
time of the day away from the BMW
that has been quickest the last few
years.
The next scheduled event is on
Sunday, October 11 at Mineral
