Vision
Healthy Bodied and Moral Minded Jyians
MISSION
To train & develop the fullest potential of students in the
CCA so that they are physically fit, proficient in the skills,
tactics and strategies of Badminton
2015 marked a special year for the Badminton Team at Juying
as we welcome our first Girls’ Team. Despite being in the school
team for only a few weeks, they took up the challenge to
participate in the West Zone Tournament. Their determination,
strength and resilience were tested but through the experience
they were exposed to the grit required henceforth.
In addition, our ‘B’ Boys did our school proud by entering the
2nd round of the West Zone Tournament. Each match was a
tough fight but students rose to the occasion by displaying the
R 3 IGHT values. This was seen in their spirit on the court as well
as taking charge of deciding on crucial roles such the fixtures,
linesmen and umpires for each match.
It has been said, “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.” At
Juying Secondary School, learning takes precedence. Students
who choose Badminton as their Co-Curricula Activity (CCA) go
through a rigorous training plan. Training sessions are held twice
a week. These typically include basic strokes and techniques as
well as basic footwork and court movement. Sports Psychology
is another domain students develop. Students are also entrusted
with leadership positions. While the Captain and Vice-Captain
oversee and guide the team, the Lower Secondary team leaders
are crucial members of the CCA who help to foster discipline,
team spirit and sportsmanship. We believe these are the values
and skills that will keep us going.
2015 has been an exciting year for us. From the many friendly
matches with different schools to the National Inter-school
Tournament and the Community Basketball League, our boys
displayed strong resilience and teamwork when faced with
strong opponents. They did not give up when the going got
tough and have shown a good improvement over last year’s
performances. Our ‘B’ division players, Fabian Lim and Darren
Garcia even had been interviewed and written by Red Sports
which added a feather to our hat.
However, the Juying Basketball team is not just about
tournaments and playing basketball. Character building and
leadership are equally emphasized upon. We engage in regular
team-building activities to promote team spirit. Recognition
of efforts and initiatives serve to motivate our boys and hence
leadership is developed through training.
We had the pleasure of attending the SEA Games to support
Team Singapore Basketball and experience the standard of
the national players. We also went for the SEA Games tour to
support the other games. In November this year, we will be
conducting a Combined Sports VIA Camp for our players and
the boys will be organising a basketball competition for the
primary school players.
Vision
Basketball Club aims to develop JYians to be Healthy
Bodied and Moral Minded sportsmen who strive for
excellence on and off the courts.
MISSION
Strengthen the JYian Basketballers’ physical stamina
and mental endurance through self-discipline, selfconfidence
and self-esteem, and develop JYian
Basketballers’ character and sportsmanship by fostering
camaraderie and social integration.
The followings are the 5 aspirations of a JYian Basketballer.
1. I am not a JYian Basketball player. I am a JYian LEADER who
happens to play basketball.
2. Our hearts have to be in whatever we do.
3. During critical periods, a leader is not allowed to feel sorry for
himself, to be down, to be angry or to be weak. We must beat those
emotions.
4. Discipline is doing what we are supposed to do, in the best
possible manner, at the time we are supposed to do it.
5. There are 5 fundamental qualities that make a great team.
Communication, trust, collective responsibility, care and pride.
Each is like a separate finger in a fist, individually important and
unbeatable when together.
