One Choir, One Voice
MISSION
We aim to become a versatile choir, one that is well
versed in traditional folk, classical choral and the latest
trendy pop music. We seek to transgress boundaries and
bring forth wondrous performances each time we step
on stage. We commit ourselves to becoming triple best
in – singing, dancing and acting. We strive to bring joy
and entertain our audience with our passion and love for
the performing arts. Together, we hope to inspire and tell
our story, our way.
Juying Secondary School Choir is a young and vibrant choir.
Founded in 2001, we have come a long way and after numerous
transformations, we have evolved into a versatile choir that not
only does classical choral and traditional folk music, but also the
latest trendy pop tunes.
This year, Juying Secondary School Choir has been invited to
perform at numerous large-scale key events, such as the JYSS
20th Anniversary Speech Day Concert, Hong Kong – Singapore
Exchange Closing Ceremony Concert, SG50 Nanyang Constituency
Observance Ceremony Combined Finale Item and the Lion’s Club
Pioneer Generation Appreciation Lunch Performance.
The Cultural Dancers learn about the theories and practical skills
of different dance routines and are equipped with the values of
self-discipline, time management and other values that are in
line with the R 3 IGHT values of the school.
The Buddy System allows the juniors to mingle with the seniors,
a way to have a warm welcome for new members. Through the
Cultural Dance Camp, students learn more about each other,
valuing other opinions and views as well as respecting others’
races and religion. It also provides the opportunity for students
to display the value of graciousness, looking out for others and
portray teamwork in task assigned.
Dance Exchange Programme with other school widens the
students’ horizon in dance scene. The students develop their
dance skills through the variety of dance styles that they are
exposed to. This helps them to structure and strengthen their
knowledge of dances.
The Cultural Dance is actively involved in school performances
with a variety of dance styles such as Chinese contemporary to
celebrate Chinese New Year, Malay Contemporary dance for
SYF Arts Presentation 2015, Malay Dance for Prize Giving Day
and Hari Raya Concert and Modern Dance for Teacher’s Day
concert and Yellowren Competition 2015.
Under the guidance and training of our vocal and dance instructors,
Ms Deniece and Ms Safy, and the care and support of our teachersin-charge,
Mr Dayan Tan Ying Peng, Miss Lau Jia Yun, Mdm Mak
(1st Semester) and Mr Melvin (2nd Semester), the choir did the
school proud by clinching the Certificate of Accomplishment at
the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation 2015, signifying the
choir’s progress in choral music making.
In Juying Secondary School Choir, students undergo an allrounded
arts education. Not only do students get to attend
musicals and music festivals, they also receive master classes from
industry practitioners and participate in exchange programs with
choirs from other schools. These enhance the students’ musicality
and deepen their sense of appreciation for music.
