MISSION
To instill in iACE dancers a passion for dancing with
strong emphasis on technical foundation
The benefit of dance extends beyond keeping fit. Our dance
program focuses on developing transferable skills valuable
to our dancers while instilling technical skills. The confidence
gained through achievements increases self-esteem and our
robust training program helps our dancers develop resilience,
accountability and dedication. Participation in an art form also
gives the opportunity for a creative outlet.
To provide learning opportunities for all, we were actively
involved in school events such as Speech Day, Hong Kong
Exchange Program Closing Ceremony and the National Day
Nanyang Observance Ceremony. Several bonding activities have
also been organised to foster team spirit among the dancers.
This included attending the critically acclaimed CATS musical,
group study sessions before examinations and refurbishing of
the dance CCA room.
The Nutz Crew has done us proud this year. We were awarded
Distinction in the SYF Arts Presentation, Champion in the Pulse!
Street Dance Competition and
were finalists in the Super24
competition. In addition, the
dance crew was invited to
perform at the Chinese New
Year River Hongbao and Deyi
Secondary School Arts Fiesta.
These are attestations to our
dancers’ excellence which has
gained recognition in the Hip
Hop dance arena.
Objective
To develop responsibility, confidence appreciation
for music and team spirit through performance and
involvement
in a thriving musical community.
Singapore Youth Festival ARTs Presentation 2015
As with many other school bands in Singapore, the focus of the
JYSS Symphonic Band was on performing well at the Singapore
Youth Festival 2015. Right from the early months of the year,
band practices were intense and focussed on perfecting the
skills of every band member. Despite the tough competition,
we managed to perform to our expectations and attain the
Certificate of Accomplishment at the Singapore Youth Festival
Arts Presentation 2015. This was indeed a sweet fruit to the
arduous labour of our band members!
Speech Day 2015
In conjunction with the nation’s celebration of SG 50, Juying
Secondary School’s 20th anniversary, Speech Day 2015 was
a prestigious event with educators and pioneer educators
gracing the occasion. The JYSS Symphonic Band had the
honour of entertaining the crowd with popular tunes by such
as a medley of songs by One Direction and ‘Stand Up for
Singapore’. It was indeed an honour and a privilege to perform
at this extremely meaningful event.
National Day Nanyang Observance Ceremony
Celebrating the nation’s 50th birthday this year proved to be
significant for the JYSS Symphonic band as well, performing
for an audience of residents and students from the entire
Nanyang GRC at the National Day Nanyang Observance
Ceremony. Being responsible for the parade march past
and inspection melody, the JYSS Symphonic Band put
in their utmost efforts to ensure the precise coordination
of both contingents and guests of honour to the music.
Through conversations with some of the Band members,
many of them felt proud and honoured to be able to contribute
to the nation’s Golden Jubilee celebration. It will certainly
be a long-lasting memory for the band members.
