Creating Opportunities for the Pursuit of Excellence series
(C.O.P.E.s)
Objectives
The workshops are planned to assist the upper secondary
students to
- achieve the school ‘s Character and Citizenship Education
(CCE) learning outcomes.
- attain the CCE skills of reflective thinking, perspective
taking and responsible decision making.
- practise the values of resilience and responsibility.
The C.O.P.E. series of workshop was customised for the Upper
Secondary Students in Term One. The students of all graduating
classes attended a total of five sessions. The Secondary Three
students attended the C.O.P.E series of workshop in Terms Two
and Four.
In these workshops, the students learnt that it is possible to turn
our own imperfect circumstances, insecurities and weaknesses
into a source of strength and to overcome adversities. They
learnt that being successful is about self-actualisation, being able
to achieve personal growth and live a fulfilling and purposeful
life in accordance with our personal values and aspirations. The
students explored, clarified and strengthened their personal
motivations for wanting to be successful. The students were
also taught good learning skills, techniques and habits that will
enhance their long-term learning effectiveness and academic
performance.
Juying Students’ Centre – Chillax
JYians can unwind and socialise at Chillax, a recreation area created specially for them! This year, to ease the grant of stickers to
students who displayed the R 3 IGHT values and the 7 Habits, students need to collect only 3 stickers to gain entry to Chillax! Our
school is collaborating with Ms Cecilia Cortado from School Family Education (SFE), who supports by overseeing the running of
Chillax during operational hours. The Chillax Committee worked with the school’s Positive School Climate (PSC) Committee to
reward each winning class of the R 3 IGHT award (PSC) with a special Chillax session after the end-of-year examination.
Positive School Climate (PSC) Awards
To give recognition to students for exhibiting the R 3 IGHT values
The Juying Secondary Positive School Climate (PSC) awards are a set of awards that give recognition to our students for exhibiting
the school R 3 IGHT values. A total of 23 students, who represented their respective classes, were presented the Most Proactive
Student awards this year in Term Two. They exemplified the ideal student in Juying Secondary through their actions within and out
of the classroom, such as following up with their classmates who were absent from class. To recognise the collective efforts of classes
that contributed to the overall positive school culture, the Most Proactive Class awards were also given to each level. It has truly been
an encouraging year to see our JYians living out the school values!
NTUSU-BP Mentoring Programme
Since 2012, the school has been participating actively in the
NTUSU-BP Mentoring Programme organised by the Student
Union in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).
The eight weeks of NTUSU-BP Mentoring Programme in
Semester One was for selected students from Secondary 3
Express, 4 Express, 4 Normal Academic and 5 Normal Academic
classes.
In this programme, the students received academic coaching
in their “N” or “O” Level Mathematics and Sciences subjects
from the mentors. The mentors chosen were mainly the Science
and Engineering undergraduates from NTU who are equipped
with the necessary knowledge to guide their mentees in their
academic work. The ratio for the mentor and mentees is 1:2
thus allowing the mentor to give more attention and help to our
students.
