Strategic Games Club
Aesthetics Overview
vision:
Every JYian is a critical and creative thinker
MISSION:
The Strategic Games Club exists to advance the minds
of its members through critical and creative thinking via
making connections between games and life.
The Strategic Games Club aims to develop the minds of its
members in thinking critically and creatively through strategy
games such as Chinese Chess, International Chess, Scrabble,
Monopoly, Risk etc. Our members are encouraged to be selfdirected
learners, learning strategies through their own research,
playing against each other and with opponents from other
schools. This year, our students have participated in competitions
such as the Jurong Green CC Scrabble Open Championship
2015, 67th National Schools Individual Chess Championships
2015 and the KDF Charity ‘Xiangqi’ Championship 2015. They
have learnt the spirit of sportsmanship, humbly and graciously
accepting wins and losses, and demonstrated resilience when
faced with tough opponents!
This year, our members also went through an inaugural course
on Game Design using the ‘GameMaker’ software. They learnt
about the principles of game design and the technical skills to
create digital games. Working in teams, it was a platform for
them to unleash their creative juices and design a game they
could proudly call their own.
In October, our club visited Bright Hill Evergreen home. The
members were actively involved in planning, taking charge of
the various activities. We sang popular songs with the elderly,
facilitated a Bingo game and taught them origami.
