CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
18 FEBRUARY 2015
Juying ushered in Chinese New Year (CNY) 2015 with a joint
celebration for Total Defence Day (TDD).
The celebration commenced with the Chinese Calligraphy writing
by Mr Seet and our partners; Mr Sam Ng Say Peng (SAC) and
Mdm Misnah Bte Tokijah (JPSG). The writing of the lovely artworks
symbolised the welcoming of the Year of the Goat and ushering
in prosperity.
This year, the teachers and students performed the customary act
of exchanging oranges and red packets. This tradition teaches
the students the importance of showing respect and maintaining
good relationships.
In commemorating TDD, the ELDDS presented a skit portraying
the invasion of the Japanese during Chinese New Year in 1942.
In relation to the theme for this year, “Our SAF, Giving Strength
to Our Nation”, this skit serves to remind us about not taking the
peacefulness of Singapore for granted. Everyone has a part to
play in keeping the nation safe and peaceful.
The concert kicked off with the Fashion Show where class
representatives paraded on stage in their festive costumes. We
were honoured to have our pioneer teachers, Mrs Choong, Mr
Sies and Mr Billy Goh as the judges for the fashion show.
Secondary 4E1 students amused the audience with an uproarious
performance of Three Sentences and A Half ( 三 句 半 表 演 ). The
Cultural Dance swept us away with their elegant and graceful
dance movements, and our Choir enchanted us with their vibrant
chorals. We were also enthralled by the melodious voices of our
teachers, Mr Dayan Tan, Mr Lee Kah Hong, Ms Seleena and Ms
Yang Wenqing.
A video presentation featuring staff and students’ well wishes for
Chinese New Year was also shown.
The highlight of the concert was the appearance of the God of
Fortune (played by Mr Rajes Kumar), who showered the students
with sweet blessings.
FITNESS RUN AND
INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY
17 APRIL 2015
On 17th April, our Fitness Run was held at the Singapore
Discovery Centre (SDC) and SAFTI Military Institute. We were
extremely proud to partner both SDC and SAFTI MI for this
event where students viewed international friendship day
exhibits at SDC before their 2.4km race at SAFTI MI. This was
a new experience for our students, staff and parents. On race
day, we were blessed with perfect weather in the morning
and together with their teachers and parents, students were
looking to clock their best timings for the 2.4km route. Isotonic
beverages were also kindly sponsored by 100-Plus to help us
cool down at the end of the run.
Our two emcees for the day, Miss Lynette Wong and Mr Yeo
Yong Kiat enthusiastically hyped up the crowd and led the
respective cohorts in the cheers. Psyched up by all the cheering,
the students warmed up and got ready. Our Principal, Mr Seet
Tiat Hee then flagged off the various categories.
Like previous years, our students, teachers and parents
displayed their resilience and competitive spirit during the run.
It was encouraging to see smiles on all the runners’ faces during
the event. There were students who clocked impressive timings
worthy of mention. Muhammad Thaqif of 4T1 clocked the
fastest time of 8 minutes 56 seconds for the boys and Rozene
Yap of 2E2 clocked the fastest time of 11 minutes 6 seconds
for the girls.
Competition between the cohorts was intense this year. After
tallying the scores, Secondary One Andes cohort emerged as
the Champion cohort for Fitness Run 2015!
We believe all participants had an educational learning
experience at SDC and an enriching run at SAFTI MI.
Congratulations to all who completed the race and all the prize
winners!
The concert ended with the singing of CNY and TDD songs.
