After Jim and Dave separated in 2004,
Dave moved to Palm Springs where he
became one of the Co-owners of the
Barracks Bar. He quickly settled into the
Palm Springs lifestyle, bought a home and
became immersed in the social fabric of the
city. He joined Palm Springs Leather Order
of the Desert (PSLOD) where he rose to
prominence and served as Media Coordinator
and the Production Manager of the
annual Mr. Palm Springs Leather contest
held every year during Leather Pride week.
Dave supported many organizations and
causes and generously lent his time and talents
to build websites, design posters, promote
events, judge contests, emcee shows,
manage ticket sales and volunteer his time
at the events to ensure success.
David was honored by the Palm Springs
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence when he
was given the title of “Saint”, an honorary
title bestowed on a select few individuals
who have helped the organization behind
the scenes in service to the greater LGBTQ
community. He became known as “Saint
Dave of the Devine Design”.
But Dave really found his “voice” when he
joined his beloved Palm Springs Gay Men’s
Chorus when it was originally known as
Caballeros. In the Chorus, Dave once again
immersed himself in the organization with
his booming bass voice and working in
support of its mission, “To be a chorus of
gay men who, through musical excellence,
community outreach and civic responsibility,
are dedicated to entertaining, inspiring,
and educating the culturally diverse community
in which we live”. In the Chorus,
as in every other aspect of Dave’s life, he
excelled and was deeply engaged and universally
loved and respected.
Dave is survived by his brother Ron, his
sister-in- law Deb, his nieces Tanya, Amy
and Ryann, his nephews Tony and Chris,
as well as 7 grand nieces, 7 grand nephews
and 3 great grand-nieces. Needless to say,
he survived by many, many loving friends
- from Michigan to New York to Los Angeles,
from Fire Island to Palm Springs – who
all remember him for his big smile, his
generosity of spirit, his loving nature, and
sharp wit.
A Celebration of Life will be held on
Sunday, December 4, 2016, at the Palm
Springs Pavilion, 401 S. Pavilion Way, Palm
Springs, CA 92262. Doors open at 1:00
P.M., and the program, featuring the Palm
Springs Gay Men’s Chorus and others,
begins at 2:00 P.M. Everyone is welcome!
