YEAR 1
I loved drawing the pictures in my Superhero Comic strip. Pirates was my
favourite topic. I enjoyed writing about pirates from long ago. I also have a special
fact – did you know that a Spinosauras is the biggest meat eater in the world?

Year 1 have enjoyed a very busy and exciting year both in
and out of class. In the autumn term we visited Melton
Museum to learn all about toys from the past.
I love Year 1! Our new
play house is amazing!
I have liked all the writing
we have done and
really enjoyed writing
our Superhero comic
strips. I have enjoyed
performing the story of
The Rainbow Fish in
our Celebration Afternoon
and liked the costume I
wore as the Innkeper in
the Nativity.

PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Rearsby village formed our next stop, as
we ventured on our first proper Geography
fieldtrip. Armed with clipboards and iPads
we went to investigate our local village. We
became thoroughly engaged with traffic
counting and were reluctant to leave any
car off our tally chart once we got started!
Beaumanor Hall has been home to both
our Victorian Christmas and our Pirate
Day. Dressed for each occasion in amazing
costumes, we spent the day learning outside
the classroom with very practical and fun
activities. Our African topic started with a
full day’s workshop with Beema in school.
She taught us how to dance African
style, play the drums, sing African
chants and try our hand at African
printing. We have also been
incredibly lucky to have had two days
visiting Grace Dieu Manor’s extensive
Forest Schools site. Constructing
dens, roasting marshmallows,
walking in rivers, building dams and
hunting for treasure have filled our
outdoor days and the children have
loved every minute!
