Heading into the evening sessions, the
weather was starting to take a turn, with big rain
clouds in the distance. Wet weather tyres were
fitted to most machines.
The track was soon greeted with big
Thunderbolt and lightning, Very, very frightening
me. (Galileo) Galileo. (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo
Figaro Magnifico-o-o-o-o. Sorry got carried away
with a bit of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen
there. Massive amounts of rain came pouring
from the sky. We were not too unhappy with this,
as we knew that we could use our experience in
the wet conditions to make up time on the teams
ahead. Ricky was still out on track on the Dunlop
cut-slick front and Dunlop slick rear, when the
safety car was sent out, as the track conditions
were not ideal with big puddles forming in certain
parts of the track.
This did annoy us a bit as no time could
be made up behind the pace car. Ricky soon
pitted and we spent the next 6 minutes fitting
the wheels fitted with wet weather tyres. Shaun
headed out in the B session on the wets for the
first time. Shaun is a very fast wet weather rider
so was soon setting the fastest times out on
track, making up big time on the teams ahead.
Martinus was up next in the C group and it
would be his first ever outing on a wet track. He
did an incredible job and again made us up huge
time. The track was drying out pretty quickly
but we decided to send me out in the D group
to try make up more time. I managed to do just
that, setting the fastest times throughout the D
session, even came close to breaking out of the
2,20 mark.
8.30pm and it was finally time for Shez to
head on track for his first session, and this is
where this guy’s talent really shines through.
Having done no practice on the bike, and on a
damp track with wet tyres fitted, Shez took a
mere 3 laps to get into the groove before setting
really fast lap times. Shez got into low 1,11’s but
