Cameron Petersen
(MotoAmerica 600/
Supersport)
Number: 45
Born: 02/12/1994
From: Actually born in Barcelona, Spain
but his hometown is Johannesburg
Bike: M4 Sportbike TrackGear.com Suzuki
I have recently learnt about Cameron
Petersen and his exploits overseas. What
I have heard and seen thus far has been
nothing but good. Son of South African
racing legend, Robbie Petersen, Cameron
certainly has racing in his blood. Not only is
his father a former racer but his uncles were
too. He has titles in Supermoto under his
belt as well as background in motocross.
2013 saw Cameron dominate the South
African Supersport championship, winning
the title that year. He has since moved on to
the MotoAmerica Supersport championship
where he has shown great potential for
success. In his first season, on board
the Roadrace team Factory Yamaha, he
grabbed a runner up finish in New Jersey.
That was just a sample of his talent,
finishing seventh in the championship.
2016
In his second season, now riding the M4
Sportbike TrackGear.com Suzuki, Cameron
has gone on to achieve even more success.
He picked up three podiums this season,
one of them being a trip to the top step as
he took his first victory in New Jersey. That
victory was swiftly followed by a second
place finish at the following round in Virginia.
He would not have to wait much longer
for his next trip to the podium as he rode
his way to third in Wisconsin at the very
next round. Seven rounds in and Cameron
had picked up a victory, three podiums
and seven top 5 finishes. He was clearly
showing he meant business and could
ride with the best of them. Cameron found
himself lying fourth in the championship at
this stage, and although he never managed
to grab another podium finish, consistent
finishes saw him solidify a fourth place finish
on 189 points.
