MRKT 671 Special Projects in Marketing Analytics (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of the MS in Data Analytics degree<br />

and 15 credits of marketing specialization coursework. A casebased<br />

study of the application of analytics to marketing. Discussion<br />

covers the role of analytics in the marketing process and<br />

types of data and database structures maintained by marketers.<br />

Projects involve working with real marketing data sets to<br />

analyze patterns and address particular marketing issues, such<br />

as how to maximize sales of specific products and services.<br />

MSAF (Accounting and Financial<br />

Management)<br />

MSAF 670 Accounting and Financial Management Capstone (3)<br />

Prerequisite: Completion of all program courses except FIN 645.<br />

A capstone study of accounting and financial management that<br />

integrates subject matter from both areas. Advanced principles,<br />

techniques, and theories are applied through the analysis and<br />

presentation of case studies by student teams. Assignments<br />

include a research paper that comprehensively assesses an<br />

important current issue or emerging trend in the fields of financial<br />

management and accounting.<br />

NPMN 600 Nonprofit and Association Organizations<br />

and Issues (3)<br />

A presentation of the roles and functions of the principal types<br />

of nonprofit organizations. Characteristics that distinguish nonprofit<br />

organizations from their counterparts in the private and<br />

public sectors are introduced. The challenges, opportunities,<br />

and common issues facing managers of nonprofit organizations<br />

are explored. These issues include administrative cost control,<br />

preserving the organization’s legal status and revenue base,<br />

staffing and organizing in response to client needs, and ethical<br />

considerations. Specific laws, regulations, policies, and court<br />

rulings that affect the nonprofit sector are examined.<br />

NPMN 610 Nonprofit and Association Law and Governance (3)<br />

A study of current ideas and approaches related to nonprofit<br />

law, governance, and mission. Discussion covers distinctions<br />

between nonprofit, educational, charitable, social action, membership,<br />

cultural, scientific, environmental, and trade associations<br />

as they relate to incorporation, legal standing, tax-exempt<br />

status, and governance. Topics include nonprofit governance<br />

and trustee issues, as well as lobbying and advocacy, nonprofit<br />

liability, personnel, and unrelated business income tax. The<br />

relationship of governance and ethics in nonprofit management<br />

is examined.<br />

NPMN 620 Nonprofit and Association Financial Management (3)<br />

A detailed study of theories and practices of nonprofit financial<br />

management and decision making, including budgeting,<br />

reporting requirements, nonprofit accounting, and financial<br />

standards. Focus is on the role of financial management in<br />

maintaining the fiscal health and legal status of the nonprofit<br />

organization. Topics include budgeting, fund accounting, cash<br />

flow analysis, expenditure control, long-range financial planning,<br />

audits, and grant and contract management. Discussion<br />

also covers compliance with nonprofit accounting and financial<br />

management principles in reference to maintaining public<br />

access and ethical standards.<br />

NPMN 640 Marketing, Development, and Public Relations<br />

in Nonprofit Organizations and Associations (3)<br />

A study of the principles and practices required to develop and<br />

promote the products, services, positions, and image of nonprofit<br />

organizations. Focus is on fundraising and membership<br />

recruitment issues. Topics include the design of a marketing<br />

strategy and marketing mix, pricing issues, alternative revenuegenerating<br />

mechanisms, and customer service. Discussion also<br />

explores use of the media, advertising and promotion methods,<br />

and relationships with business, government, and the community.<br />

The integration of sponsors, members, and chapters in the<br />

total marketing effort is examined.<br />

NPMN 650 Fundamentals of Association Management (3)<br />

A study of the unique and important niche of associations<br />

within the nonprofit sector. Analysis covers the history of associations,<br />

political groups, trade lobbying groups, and foundations<br />

in relation to their varying missions, internal capacity,<br />

shifting environments, and legal status. Associations also are<br />

assessed in terms of their wider environment, including the<br />

extent of their labor force and command of capital resources.<br />

Discussion also covers the wider influence of associations on<br />

U.S. economy and policy.<br />

NPMN 655 Process and Outcome Evaluation for Nonprofit<br />

Organizations (3)<br />

An examination of the growing importance of process and<br />

outcome evaluation to nonprofit organizations in supporting<br />

their missions. Various quantitative and qualitative evaluation<br />

strategies, as well as quality- and process-improvement<br />

methodologies, are explored. Topics include important evaluation<br />

concepts such as validity and reliability of various data<br />

collection tools, various approaches to sampling, and precision<br />
