MOTO X VOLUME 2 NUMBER 5

A warm, breezy day saw the Leeukuil
circuit come back to life with the first
club meeting of the season. On the
banks of the Vaal river, where the sandy
conditions. remind one of tracks like
Port Elizabeth and Cape Town,the top
Transvaal riders turned up for final
race practice before going on to Killarney
for the second round of the
Nationals the following Saturday.
Apart from the Minicross and Junior
riders, competitors were split up into
categories rather than classes, so we saw
Novices, Intermediates and Experts
racing on machines of varying power,
with some very interesting results. Star
of the 12Scc Class. Grant Maben, was
mounted on a 2S0cc Honda. competing
against the likes of Tyrone Stevenson on
the 2S0cc Kawasaki, Peter Hill (2S0cc
Husqvarna), Toby Venter (2S0cc
Suzuki), Marthinus Briers (2S0cc
Yamaha), Chris Brand (SOOcc
Husqvarna) and Butch Hirsch (SOOcc
Bultaco) as well as a host of top riders
on 12Scc machines.
Maben hole-shotted the first heat ahead
of Stevenson, Venter and Hill, but as
the riders came around to complete the
first lap, it was apparent that Maben
must have taken a tumble somewhere
