Yamaha's new XS Eleven, the fastest
motor cycle made in Japan, has been
given rave reviews in the international
motor cycle press.
The XS Eleven - so called because of
its 1 100cc capacity and its standing
quarter-mile time of 11 seconds - is
due for general release in South Africa
in April.
Typical of the pr.inted comments made
about the new Yamaha superbike is
this extract from the authoritative
American magazine, 'Cycle Guide'.
"Yamaha's new XS Eleven is not only
the King of Superbikes but also the
Prince of Touring. Start up this four
cylinder, re-arrange the roads if you so
wish, venture into the valley and fear
not (any other bike) . . . this is the
meanest motor cycle in the valley."
Added 'Cycle' - another famous
American publication:
"It has now become clear that in
Yamaha's fight for a larger share of the
highway market, the XS750 triple was
only a left hook. Now they've delivered
a genuine knock-out: their new
XS1100 four and in this mode we have
the new King of Super bikes .... with
the Yamaha Eleven's arrival we have
an expanded standard by which such
machines henceforth must be judged."
The all-new XS1100 is now undergoing
road tests in Britain and early reports
are exceptionally favourable.
"It seems obvious that our new top
bike has taken the overseas motorcycle
critics by storm," said Yamaha's
Bruce Johnstone. "Since our announcement
that we intended irnporting
the machine into South Africa
we have been innundated by queries
and even firm orders
