A ROYAL AFFAIR
Based on true events, this
saucy period film is premised
on the story of the British
Princess Caroline, who is
betrothed to the insane King
Christian VII of Denmark.
She subsequently succumbs to
an affair with the king’s trusted physician, Dr. Johann Struensee,
a man who successfully influences the king to enact nationwide
social reform inspired by the Enlightenment movement. Things
inevitably take a disastrous turn as the kingdom’s enemies catch
on to the affair, which threatens to scourge both the royal family
and the promise of political and social freedoms in Denmark.
