Faulhaber expands its portfolio with<br />
the high-precision IER3 and IERS3<br />
encoders. Both encoders are highly<br />
precise and have an excellent signal<br />
quality, thanks to the optical measuring<br />
principle. A DC-micro-motor or<br />
brushless servo can be positioned<br />
with an accuracy <strong>of</strong> 0.1 to 0.3° with the<br />
IER3 and IERS3. Encoders are<br />
therefore the ideal solution for<br />
high-precision positioning applications.<br />
These encoders form a singlechip<br />
opto-reflective system, as the<br />
LED, photo-detectors, the analysis<br />
unit and interpolation levels are<br />
installed in one chip. Both encoders<br />
are available with Line Driver, which<br />
generates complementary output<br />
signals and makes the transmission <strong>of</strong><br />
data particularly resistant to electrical<br />
interference. The IER3 provides the<br />
highest resolution for its class (up to<br />
10,000 lines per revolution). The<br />
encoder achieves an angular resolution<br />
<strong>of</strong> 0.009° with the evaluation <strong>of</strong><br />
40,000 edges per revolution. The high<br />
resolution results in high control<br />
dynamics and precise speed control.<br />

The couplings experts at Reich-Kupplungen<br />
have designed the new highly<br />
flexible TOK couplings specifically to<br />
meet the high requirements <strong>of</strong> engine<br />
manufacturers and test bench<br />
operators. The design <strong>of</strong> the TOK<br />
series manages the critical resonance<br />
frequencies <strong>of</strong> the drive train to below<br />
the operating speed range. By<br />
employing torsional vibration<br />
calculations and dampening the<br />
alternating torques generated by the<br />
engine’s combustion process, all the<br />
drive components are protected<br />
against critical shocks and loads, thus<br />
increasing the service life and<br />
availability <strong>of</strong> the entire installation.<br />
Designed for speeds <strong>of</strong> up to 10,000<br />
rpm, they <strong>of</strong>fer a high torsional<br />
flexibility and torque transmission<br />
capacity from 100 up to 70,000 Nm<br />
and are particularly well suited in test<br />
benches for combustion engine<br />
testing. Their design also permits them<br />
to be used on flexibly mounted<br />
engines in various drive trains. It<br />
comprises coupling sizes for a torque<br />
range from 1 600 to 140,000 Nm.<br />

Today, the requirements for seals are<br />
getting more and more complex.<br />
Companies now require seals to be<br />
temperature, vapour, pressure and<br />
chemical resistant. For such applications,<br />
the company, COG has developed<br />
a new range <strong>of</strong> high quality<br />
‘FFKM’ material ‘COG Resist’. The<br />
company launches 4 new compounds:<br />
2 universal materials, 1 special FFKM<br />
compound for use in the oil & gas<br />
industry and 1 for the food & pharmaceutical<br />
industry. The 2 universal<br />
materials, COG Resist RS 75 AL and RS<br />
80 AL demonstrate outstanding<br />
resistance to chemicals, acids and a<br />
low gas permeability. RS 75 AL is heat<br />
resistant up to temperatures <strong>of</strong> 325 °C,<br />
and RS 80 AL up to +260°C. The COG<br />
Resist RS 92 AED seal material was<br />
developed for applications where<br />
resistance to explosive decompression,<br />
high pressure, extraordinary<br />
chemical and thermal resistance is<br />
required like the oil and gas sector.<br />
