A common I/O system for safety and automation

Automation specialist, Pilz is launching a new generation of field level devices with
the decentralised I/O system ‘PSSuniversal’ 2. It processes both, safety and nonsafety-related
control signals. Safety and automation are physically mixed but
logically separated. Users can also connect the remote I/Os to higher level control
systems via common industrial communication protocols. Its 3-part system design
allows precise diagnostics and enables errors to be located and rectified quickly.
Modules can even be hot-swapped, the head module can be swapped without
having to re-configure and dismantle the system. Users can themselves build the
system structure on screen via “drag & drop”. With the new configuration tool from
Pilz, users are guided through the manual installation step-by-step. This helps to
avoid errors and the system can be put into service quickly and simply. The merging
of automation and safety functions along with both technical and mechanical
improvements help users to save time and costs right from the planning phase.

Robust power supply with 40 A for adverse ambient
conditions
The new versions from Trio Power, the power
supply range of Phoenix Contact provides a reliable
supply even in adverse ambient conditions. Like its
predecessor, the new 40 A device is robust, both
electrically and mechanically. High system
availability is a top priority for all machines and
systems. This power supply therefore provides
dynamic boost, which also starts heavy loads, with
60 A and thus 150 % of the nominal current for 5
seconds. The robust design, with its high electric
strength, high MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure)
values of over 1 million hours, along with active
function monitoring with an LED and floating signal contact, ensures that all connected
24 V DC loads are reliably supplied. With an overall width of 110 mm, and tool-free
wiring with Push-in connection saves time and space in installation. The extensive
temperature range of -25 to 70 °C guarantees a high level of flexibility in applications. The
