I peeled her off me and showed her
how to set up the 6m Cabrinha Switchblade with
short lines in a game-like manner but her dad
persisted on butting in and getting all technical.
I kept thinking to myself, why is he telling her
stuff she can’t possibly comprehend? But I assumed
it was a father-daughter bonding thing so
I let it happen. It can be really frustrating sometimes
when the parents intervene too much in a
lesson because a lot of the time they have bad
habits themselves and I don’t want the younger
generation to pick them up.

After some time, I began to gain control of the
lesson again and we moved on to kite control.
Walking out in the water, I asked my little student
if she knew what sand was made of. She said no
and I told her it was parrotfish poop. Upon hearing
this she began screaming, jumping on my
leg and began climbing up like a tree of safety. I
thought this was hilarious. At this point fish poop
was a hot topic of conversation. Looking back, I
should have not mentioned fish poop. Kid lesson
101. I thought to myself how on earth am I going
to get this kid focused again and came up with a
great idea.
