The account of the 2017 Open Ocean Crossing
Sal - Boa Vista in the words of Diego Facchetti, who
flew out from Italy to take part to this kitesurfing
endurance challenge among the islands of Cape
Verde. So many emotions for such a unique race that
entered the hearts of all the participants and was
marked by the purest seafaring spirit.
Last year, when I chose Boa Vista as winter
resort for my kitesurfing school, I could have
never imagined that this short stay would have
given me such great and unforgettable emotions.
Not only because of the extraordinary
beauty of the island of Cape Verde, but especially
for the event to which I had the opportunity
to take part to: the first edition of the
Open Ocean Crossing between the islands of
Sal and Boa Vista, a 50 km crossing over the
Atlantic Ocean scheduled on February 11th
2017.
It is a downwind of 40 real nautical miles (75
km) starting from the beach of Sal, where
there is the centre of Mitu Monteiro and arriving
at the beautiful Turtle Beach on Boa Vista:
a non-profit event, in fact the remaining of the
paid fees were donated to the "One click for a
smile" association.
When I heard about the event on schedule, I
realized that surely it was one of the reasons
why I was on the island. No way I could miss
the opportunity to take part to it.
