While most neighbors are courteous and polite to whoever behaves in kind to them, it is worthwhile to verify to the best of one’s ability that the nieghbors near a prospective home are respectful and not hostile. Aside from the comforts of feeling welcome, other issues to consider include: • Community infrastructure: As of this printing, no shuls have been approved in either Jackson or Toms River. Additionally, no mikveh is on the horizon in either town. • Construction permits: In Lakewood, it’s unfortunately too easy to fall into sloppy habits regarding permits and other building ordinances. Exercise care to hire contractors who are well-versed in the appropriate building codes and will adhere to the letter of the law while executing your project. • Transportation: When trying to obtain busing to Lakewood schools, students who live in other towns have met with varying degrees of success. Houses start in the low $500’s and climb from there, and are rising as it becomes more desirable to frum buyers. It is only about 30 minutes by foot from the Faraday Ave. shul in Lakewood. Just a few minutes’ walk from Tallymawr, Walden Woods, still in the $450’s, is already home to nearly 10 frum families.
