Attorney Review
This section has been prepared with the assistance of Gerald B. Klein, Esq., and Miriam B.
Weinstein, Esq.
Once both parties have signed the contract, the three-day period of attorney
review begins. You will want your attorney to look at your contract immediately
and iron out any issues, so make sure, when signing, that both you
and the lawyer are available during this period. Don’t sign a contract the day
before you are going out of town to your brother’s chasunah; the brief window
of attorney review is your best chance at catching major problems in the
phrasing of your contract.
If the lawyer finds something problematic in the contract, he or she will negotiate
to have it changed or send a letter of disapproval, which terminates the
contract without a penalty. When both parties have approved the contract,
you will give your deposit to the lawyer, who will hold it in escrow until closing.
