Ion Size
Define Ion Size: Ion size is the size of an atom after it becomes an ion, or gains or loses an energy level.
Cation Size Increases
Anion Size Increases
Explanation:
Cation size increases as you move right laterally across the periodic table. This is because, as a cation, positively
charged ions are more likely to lose electrons than to gain them, thus making them more apt to lose an energy level.
This causes their atomic size to decrease. There is also a smaller atomic mass as you travel right laterally along the
periodic table. This means a lesser ability to pull the electrons in the various energy levels in closer to the nucleus,
which allows the energy levels to exist further away from the center of the atom, which increases atomic size.
