SEE
If you want to explore
the city, I recommend
getting on a bike. Did you know
that Calgary has the most extensive
urban pathway system in all of
North America? Soon adding 130
km to connect all 55 communities
in Calgary, it will be the largest in
the world - not to mention on flat
terrain. Convenient for locals and
travelers, NOMAD: a mobile gear
rental company can deliver activity
gear to your door. While taking
your bike for a spin, make sure
you stop at Alforno, a bright and
minimalistic bike-friendly bakery
and café serving treats and coffee to
keep you pedaling.
PLAY
If hiking interests
you, escape to
the wilderness of Canmore’s
surroundings in the heart of
Kananaskis Country - just one hour
from downtown Calgary. Explore
the outdoors with AV Wakefield
of Hike365, who brings outdoor
loving females together to explore
the great outdoors. I recommend
starting with Grassi Lakes Trail: a
two-kilometer hike with easy-tomoderate
incline and superb views.
SHOP
If shopping is
your cardio, take
a walk down Stephen Avenue, the
main pedestrian and bike friendly
street where The CORE Shopping
Center is located and indulge in
some retail therapy at Holt Renfrew
or Simons. Visit the East Village:
Calgary’s first neighborhood - home
to outdoor markets, yoga classes and
river front dining. The East Village
Junction is a recently opened plot
of land with shipping containers
converted into local shops as well as
grassy patches with hammocks and
picnic tables.
