According to the Head of State, Ukraine has started talks on cancellation
of roaming charges for Ukrainians on the territory of the EU
The introduction of the visa-free regime for Ukrainian
citizens has not only symbolic but also practical value for the
state and its people, President Petro Poroshenko emphasizes.
«The authorities have fulfilled the reformist plan on
visa liberalization. Now we are working on making the visa
free access available to more Ukrainians. We are opening
relatively inexpensive railway connection, reducing the
cost of aviation flights, attracting low prices and lowering
the price of aviation companies’ tickets,» the Head of State
mentioned in his speech on the Evropeiska square.
Petro Poroshenko also said that he can announce more
pleasant news - Ukraine has begun talks on cancellation
of roaming charges for Ukrainians. «In my talks with the
leadership of the European Union and with the leaders
of the member countries, we have begun a struggle to
abolish roaming charges for Ukrainians on the territory of the
European Union,» he said.
In addition, the President said that the authorities are
working on increasing the capacity of the border posts. After
all, according to the State Migration Service, more than four
million citizens have already received biometric passports.
«This refutes the assertion that Ukrainians do not need them.
10% of Ukrainians have already received them as and
they are necessary in order to take advantage of visa-free
travel. The queue of those who want such a document is still
impressive,» the Head of State said.
«But I want to reassure everyone, please do not worry.
I emphasize that there are enough passports for all citizens,
and the documents will be issued even after June 11th. The
visa-free regime has a beginning, but there will be no end to
it. We are all sure about this, because I believe in the great
future of a strong, united Europe, which is on our side,» Petro
Poroshenko added.
The President also reminded that the start of the visafreeze
was complemented with another extraordinary
event, which was the completion of the ratification of the
Association Agreement with the European Union, the struggle
for which was commenced three and a half years ago on
Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The other day King of the Netherlands
Willem-Alexander signed the law by which his country gave
the green light to the Association. «His Majesty put an end to
this issue, and our diplomats and the entire team had had to
work hard to achieve that. Now, we are all waiting for a long
and hard work on the implementation of this Agreement,»
the Head of State said.
