Ukrainian volleyball players are winners of the
Euroleague-2017
This weekend in Gentofte (Denmark), the men’s team of
Ukraine successfully held the final of the volleyball contest
Euroleague 2017 and got a pass to the elite World League.
It was the first time our compatriots took part in the
tournament. In the final their counterpart was the double
finalist of the Euroleague – the team of Macedonia.
Three consecutive victories at the start of the first part
of the final set the rhythm for all further confrontation. The
«killer shots» of the blue and yellow team, together with the
correct strategy, resulted in a wonderful “25:15”.
In the following sets Macedonians managed to reduce
the gap, but failed to take control of the game. As a result,
the tournament ended with a complete triumph of the
national team of Ukraine (3:1). The bronze medal of the
competition was given to the team of Denmark.
Ukrainian fencers are European vice-champions
The Ukrainian men’s team won the silver awards of the
European Fencing Championship on Spurs, which is taking
place these days in the capital of Georgia.
On the way to the award, the blue and yellow team
consisting of Bohdan Nikishyn, Dmytro Kariuchenko, Anatolii
Herei, and Vitalii Medvedev defeated Finns with the score of
45:24 and Hungarians with the score of 45:39. In the semi-final
match our compatriots bypassed the athletes from the Czech
Republic with the score of 18:14. Only in the decisive difficult fight
they were defeated by Russians (32:33). This is the first award in
the national team’s qualification for this championship.

Silver winners of last year’s world championship
Maksym Dolhov and Oleksandr Horshkovozov won
European Championships-2017 on Diving.
Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Ihor Zhdanov
congratulated our athletes on the triumph and noted
their high skill and the will to win in an uncompromising
struggle.
«We are proud of you, guys! One more time the
Ukrainian anthem is proudly sung at the European
championship, which is taking place in Kyiv. Thus, the
organizers of the competition, our athletes and their
coaches prove that Ukraine is a powerful European sports
state. Ukraine is Europe!» the Minister stressed.
This is the second gold medal and the fifth award
in the national team’s assets. Ukrainians went up to the
first stage of the tournament table of synchronous jumps
from the ten-meter tower and confidently bypassed
their closest rivals, Russians, by almost 25 points (with the
score of 431.28 points). The bronze medal in this discipline
was given to the British duo Noah Williams and Matthew
Dickson (388.05).
