“A great people has been moved to
Astrid Galvan, The Associated Press
On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the
Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes
and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the
United States. Today 9-11 is a part of our history. But we
honor its memory because we saw a nation come together
to fight those that seek to harm this nation .
We must now protect DACA and stand our ground.
The move to rescind DACA is a betrayal to our Dreamers.
More than 220,000 Dreamers live in California and
I’m ready to fight for them. It is cruel to turn our back
on them. It’s now on us to get Congress to vote on the
Dream Act. Call, call, call: (202) 224-3121.
Why Political
Platforms Matter
We define a political party by its platform
or platform as a “formal set of principal
goals which are supported by a political
party or individual candidate, in order to
appeal to the general public, for the ultimate
purpose of garnering the general public’s
support and votes about complicated
topics or issues.”
But that is pure bullshit and we are in a sea
change of conservative ideals. To many,
conservative values would be a welcome
change. But the racism, xenophobia, &
misogyny leveled against some of us has
been used to put my ass back in the bad
group and that fucking oppresses me off.
I don’t care if you love Trump, Sanders, or
Clinton but if what your hate has a basis
in bigotry, then you are the enemy of the
people. Trump is the enemy of the people
because of his hate, not because he is stupid,
the voters are the stupid ones to trust
his great and powerful lie.
But there is an easy fix
Step 1 Ask a close buddy if you seem racist
to them. Avoid the ones you know are racist.
Step 2 educate your self so that you can
spot fake news from real and maybe biased
news.
A good place to start is the party platforms,
have you read it? Ever? If your buddies
tell you it does not matter, get new buddies.
The old buddies are counting on your
stupidity to get their buddies. When a
politician mentions an issue, look it up on
their web site, if its not there they just lied.
Finally if you catch them in one lie, move
on, they will lie again and again. The sad
truth is not all politicians are liars but people
often elect liars because they say what
they want to hear.
I have added both platforms to our Desert
Daily Guide Facebook Page.
You can learn about each party’s abortion
policy. And its very telling about how they
treat voter’s rights.
Democrats Pledge: “We believe unequivocally,
like the majority of Americans, that
every woman should have access to quality
reproductive health care services, including
safe and legal abortion.”
Republicans Pledge: “Abortion should be
illegal in all cases and the Constitution
should ve amended to ban the procedure.”
The Democrats say HELL YES! or whatever
on gay marriage, the Republicans insist
their right to hate gays was stolen by activist
judges.
That is the point. Giving a party power at
the locals level helps them to develop a sustained
presidential election.
AMERICAN COMICS, MANGA, AND ANIME, WITH LGBTQ
THEMES
The evolution of comics and manga,(the
Japanese version of comics), into animated
and live action motion pictures has also
evolved into updating the personal lives of
some of the primary characters into who
they really are in their sexuality.
The inclusion of LBBTQ characters into
comics and manga has been gradual in
Japan. Japanese culture has passively
accepted the rising realization of LGBTQ
individuals in their society. In the U.S. the
inclusion of LGBTQ people has become
more evident in the past decade. There is
still a remaining segment of the U.S. population
that has been rejecting the reality of
society.
During the past two years, the controversial
characters of Apollo and Midnighter
have arisen as part of the DC comics super
hero stable. These two characters have
been openly gay and show their affection
for each other in the comic series as the
attached illustration in this article demonstrates.
The character of Cat Woman has
always depicted her as bi sexual. Batman
and Robin have always been questionable
as to their actual relationship. Archi Comics
who has featured Archie Andrews as the
lead character has been available for nearly
70 years. Archie evolved from an adolescent
mischievous character into a more
mature individual. In the last published
issue of Archie, he was murdered by taking
a bullet from an assassin to protect his GAY
best friend who was running for the office
of Senator.
depicted as passive to respectful individuals.
In gay anime, many of the characters
are depicted as oversexed and sometimes
not honest in their sexuality. Relationships
have been shown as somewhat abusive as
opposed to having a genuine romantic relationship.
Lesbians are usually given more
diverse characters with involvement in a
variety of issues.
Their sexuality is more romantically portrayed
and is popular with straight guys
in Japan. Trans characters are generally
portrayed as unusual but acceptance and
understanding of the legitimacy of transexual
people is gaining acceptance.
The realization of the diversity of human
sexuality and gradual acceptance ot this
diversity is gradually being depicted in the
super hero and comic/anime world.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Covered California’s Board
of Directors took action
Thursday to promote stability
of the individual health
insurance market and to
continue to provide consumers
with choice and the
lowest rates possible in the
face of persistent national
uncertainty.
“The lack of clarity and direction at the
federal level continues to be a challenge,
and Covered California is doing everything
it can to stabilize the market and protect
consumers,” said Peter V. Lee, executive
director of Covered California. “A stable
market is critical for millions of consumers,
and Covered California is showing how it
can be done.”
“We have a way to protect consumers, but it
is complicated and will cause unnecessary
confusion and anxiety. Therefore, we are
time to act when they return in September,”
said California Health and Human Services
Secretary and Covered California Board
Chair Diana Dooley. “We are heartened by
the bipartisan discussions that put consumers
first, but we can’t wait past Sept. 30.”
Covered California announced three items
that are all geared toward providing certainty
and stability to consumers:
Covered California will wait until Sept. 30
to decide whether its health plans must add
a cost-sharing reduction (CSR) surcharge
to Silver-tier plans. Health plans are required
to offer cost-sharing reductions to
lower-income consumers, in the form of
lower copays and deductibles, which help
reduce out-of-pocket costs when consumers
access care. For the past four years, the
federal government has directly reimbursed
the health insurance companies for those
costs, but that continued funding remains
in question. Without any firm commitment
to continue those reimbursements
through 2018, Silver-tier consumers will see
an additional CSR surcharge — averaging
12.4 percent — on the gross price of their
premiums. If Congress and the president
decide to fund CSRs by Sept. 30, rates for
Silver-tier plans could
Chihuahua mix would be a life saver. And I
mean that literally. I was close to a path in
life and in an instant, a kiss from a dog can
snap you out of any bad decision.
He is registered as a security dog. It’s no
lie. Pets are not just for physical disabilities,
they can most definitely help mentally
and I’m so glad that I have Mr. Smokey, or
“Smokers”, as I refer to him at times. That’s
his pet name. Yes, that small pun was
intended. Did you notice it?
It’s the unconditional love they give you.
Unlike our fair-weather humans, who
change their attitude more than they
change their underwear.
I often wonder what goes on in a pet’s
brain for them to just give love without
any question. You feed them and give them
belly rubs and they are loyal for life. People
could learn from animals.
Weren’t animals on Earth before people? It
is evolution not creationism. “God” didn’t
point his finger and give us Adam and Eve
and the rest of the population was left to
that! Get real.
So, from all that insanity came my little
companion, Mr. Smokey. A true friend
than most humans. I communicate with
humans better because of Smokey. I hope
people realize that sometimes we can learn
from things we don’t associate as up to
our level. We dismiss so many things that
appear directly in our faces. Open your
eyes and think. Why am I getting unconditional
love from one and a whole bunch of
confused drama from another? Does one
know something the other doesn’t? Who
knows. All I know is all you need is love.
Unconditional love!
Peace, Love and unconditional Love, Jersey
move forward without the added CSR surcharge.
If no decisions on CSR funding are made by
Sept. 30, the gross or total premium would
reflect this CSR surcharge for consumers
with Silver-tier plans who receive subsidies.
However, in most cases, consumers would
not see a “net” change in what they would
pay since their premium tax credit would
also increase.
The board adopted new contract language
to provide carriers with more assurances
during this time of unprecedented uncertainty
in order to maximize consumer
choice and participation in 2018 with the
lowest rates possible. If a carrier incurs
unanticipated losses in 2018 due to changes
in existing federal policies or other uncertainties,
such as the lack of enforcing the
individual mandate, the carrier will be able
to request a recoupment of those losses
over a three-year period (plan years 2019 to
2021). Also, if a carrier experiences unanticipated
profits due to changes in existing
federal policies, such as the resumption of
a reinsurance fund, they will factor those
profits into their rates over the next one to
three plan years.
The board approved an increase to Covered
California’s marketing and outreach budget
for 2018 of approximately $5 million, for a
total of $111 million. The additional funding
will be used to increase the number of
television and radio ads around key dates
throughout the upcoming open-enrollment
period, which will run from Nov. 1 through
Jan. 31. Covered California will also engage
in a more robust regional marketing direct-mail
campaign for consumers affected
by the CSR surcharge.
“These actions will protect our consumers
and give our carriers the certainty they
need to continue providing choice at a good
price,” Lee said.
“While we are doing our best to manage
a difficult situation, we hope Congress
and the administration will provide clear
guidance on how it intends to stabilize the
individual insurance market.”
This week the Congressional Budget Office
issued a report that found that ending the
CSR reimbursements would raise premiums
by about 20 percent in 2018 and 25
percent in 2020 and subsequent years.
In addition, since the premium tax credit
would rise along with the premiums,
ending the CSR reimbursements would
increase the federal deficit by $194 billion
over the next 10 years.
THE LAST WORD by Greg Pettis
Well we started the week with THE Donald being
stupid and we ended it with him proving once again
that he not only is he stupid but an asshole on top
of it.
We are facing the worst foreign policy crisis in our
history – certainly since the Cuban missile crisis –
with North Korea testing a hydrogen bomb. His
reaction was three-fold – 1) we will annihilate them
(hmmm – no plan on how to do that), 2) end our
free trade pact with the SOUTH Koreans (makes
total sense, right?) and 3) stop all trade with nations
that trade with North Korea (read – China).
He did announce his plans to lower taxes on the
wealthiest Americans – because it would help all of
us poor people. I remember Ronald Reagan giving
us that same line of bullshit. That led us to the
recession of George Bush the 1st.
He announced a $7 billion aid package to Texas and
pledged to personally give $1 million. The next day
it was discovered that the media got it wrong about
his pledge – he really didn’t mean that AND he was
redirecting $1 billion of the aid package to start to
build the wall on the border that he told us that
Mexico would pay for.
First – while we could possibly annihilate the North,
what would we do with the refugee situation? How
does one clean up the nuclear waste from that kind
of attack? What happens to the 1000’s of US soldiers
guarding the South?
Second – stop the trade pact with South Korea?
Last, I knew while there is a trade deficit with the
South it is because they have cheaper goods then
their American counterparts, and in a lot of cases,
better quality. Experts say the average cost of goods
to US consumers would rise by 3.8%. I would guess
your new I-Phone would be much more expensive.
And Third – stop all trade with China. How
preposterous. The world’s largest market. The
only country that may still have any leverage on the
north and we are going to just say “keep your silk,
your rice, your electronics, and on and on and on.
Who in the world thought he was going to be a
BUSINESS President?
He finally announced regulations to eliminate
transgendered people from the military. Cut our
forces when we may be going to war…… Expand
our presence in Afghanistan, again while cutting
our forces. Threaten to place troops in Venezuela,
ooops again while cutting our forces.
And he ended the week announcing that he would
revoke DACA. The immigration deferral that President
Obama had given young people who had been
brought to the USA when they were children and
really had known no other home. Over 1 million
residents who have been living, working, going to
school and taxes would be sent back to their native
countries even though they have no support system
there and many don’t even speak the language.
In my 61 years, I have been disappointed in our
countries President’s from time to time – campaigned
for some and against some, but never until
now – have I been ashamed of one. It’s hard to
believe but you almost wish for the days of Richard
Nixon. At least you knew you had a decent man in
Gerald Ford to take over.
Well, that’s it for this week. Keep moving forward
and RISE UP!
