July 2017
ur summer terms have
O been jam-packed as
usual and our children have all
had the opportunity to get out
in to the great outdoors to do
some al-fresco learning.
Year 6 spent a wonderful day at Frog Firle Farm, Year 4 enjoyed the beautiful
surroundings of Great Dixter, Reception class and Year 2 had days at Bexhill High
Woods Forest School and Year 5 have been on a woodland exploration at RSPCA
Mallydams Wood.
Our annual Healthy Schools week at the beginning of June got us all active with KidzFit
workshops and team building experiences and also got us thinking about our diet where
we also enjoyed a sumptuous stir fry with the Chartwell cookery school. Our first attempt
at sports day was cancelled due to the predictable British wet weather but we managed
to get it all together for our reserve day and had an exciting day of running races,
obstacle courses and more.
The dizzy heights of Everest, space exploration, deepest jungle encounters and treasure
hunting were the subject of our Explorer Day in June. All the children and staff dressed
as their favourite explorer and had a great day of fun and learning by looking at the
adventures of some of our world’s most famous explorers, including Edmund Hillary and
Tenzing Norgay, Neil Armstrong and Emilia Earhart.
Our PTA Frozen Friday summer fayre extravaganza was a fantastic way to round off our
school year and many children, parents, family and friends joined us for games, events
and dancing for a fun afternoon. The afternoon was a huge success, with our thanks
going to everyone who supported the event, either by helping on the day or just turning
up and enjoying the afternoon. Pennies are still being counted but it looks to be another
fab amount raised for the school which will go towards other events, activities and
resources for the benefit of our pupils.
What a night to remember!! Our Year 5 & 6 pupils gave us 2 amazing nights out to enjoy
with their fantastic performances of Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket during the last days of
our school year. The children took on responsibilities in all roles in the production,
including lighting, acting and singing. It was a colourful production of song, dance and
superior acting and was a fabulous send off performance for our departing Year 6
children.
With sadness we closed our doors on Friday 21 July and said a fond farewell to all our
Year 6 pupils as they spread their wings and head off to their new schools in September.
We also bid farewell to Mr Corke; our year 4 teacher, Mrs Hoggarth; our Year 5 teacher
and Mrs Wiggins, our longest serving member of staff; 30 years of service under her belt
managing our lunch hall as MDSA. We wish them all good luck and happiness for the
future. We are looking forward to a well-earned summer break.
School will reopen for business as usual on Wednesday 6 September.
